Sorry, Chase Elliott. If you want the No. 9, you might need to beg NASCAR for it. Or plead your case to Richard Petty Motorsports, which plans to continue using the No. 9 to complement its No. 43 Sprint Cup entry.

In announcing that the team has signed Sam Hornish Jr. to replace Marcos Ambrose in the No. 9 car next year, team competition director Sammy Johns said Wednesday that the organization has no plans to change its car number.

The whole story can be read here.

Hopefully when Chase does move to Cup full time Petty may be willing to give the number up. It would be nice to see him run his dad's number throughout his career. On the other hand, Chase, like Dale Jr. may not want the attention that it would bring? He may just want to establish his own identity.

Not a big deal I think lol.. Yeah so its his Dad's number... oh well... too bad.. so sad.... he'll be in the 5 anyway... I love when he pops up in the Texts from last races talking about Jeff N those guys retiring and whatnot... always makes me laugh.

4 full time cars, yes. I think they can run a 5th if it's a part time deal.
Okay thanks... thats what I thought.

WHen is Kahnes contract up... if Chase wins NNS this year and gets another year under his belt down there... I see no reason to hold him back any longer. Someones gonna be the odd man out.... maybe Jeff wins the cup and retires like he said he would if he did.

Thats not happening the 24 is Chase's

It seems odd Petty would want the 9 since it has only been their number since they merged with that team that will not be named.

Hendrick already said its a strong possibility that they will run Chase in a part time car next season.

Just like how Keselowski ran the 09 car

That was a Finch car. Chase would be allowed to run a 5th Hendrick car if it's only a handful of races, right?

He could always take his dads less successful number 94 that be an easy change for the 24

Teresa the Evil wouldn't let junyer take the "8" when he split. Bad Teresa, doing her a lot of good isn't it???
Yates "gave" 88 to junyer...for a undisclosed amount.
Petty will do the same sometime in the future and again for a undisclosed amount:)

Why would they give up the 9. If I was them I would want quite a bit of money to give it up. Single digit numbers ar coveted. I am surprised no one has wanted to run the 8 again. I thought they could run a 5th car as long as it wasn't running for points

Will do, there are guys with a lot less success then him who hung around.
While that's true, not many of them have hung around in top-tier rides for years. I honestly thought Kasey Kahne would have a lot more success at Hendrick but he's been every bit as average (at best) and inconsistent as he's been his entire career.

Better stats there then Jr.

He'll be there another 3-4 years after his contract is up in 2015 at least. I see Chase taking over the 24 before he takes the 5.

I doubt it. I think Chase Elliott comes up in 2016, takes Kahne's ride and gets mentored some by Jeff Gordon and then Gordon retires in 2017 and Larson or the next young hotshoe replaces him.

Chip Ganassi won't let Larson out of his sight, he'd be crazy to let him walk. Idk of any other young guy out there that would be ready to race for Hendrick in 2017

Erik Jones. Kyle Busch and Joe Gibbs would be stupid to let him walk though.
I think Erik Jones will end up at Gibbs eventually, maybe take over Busch's car in 2017 since his contract is up in 2016. I don't think Kyle is exactly happy with Toyota or Gibbs. But that's way off topic lol.

Who knows, one thing we all know is Chase will be in a Hendrick car within the next couple years. And that's awesome.

I think Kyle might be stuck at Gibbs. The only chance he might have is with Roush and I'm not sure if Roush wants another Busch in his cars.

The deeper into the chase that Kasey goes, the harder the decision will be to replace him. Even though it'll probably be 2016 at the earliest before Chase Elliott goes full time Cup, if Kasey makes it to the Final Four this year, it's gonna be hard to justify dumping him even after next year, unless he completely tanks in 2015.

2015 will be the year that makes or breaks Kasey. If he gets a couple wins like he usually does, runs in the top 5 or 10 a majority of the time, and makes the chase, then I don't see Hendrick letting him walk.

I could also see Erik Jones taking over the 20 when Kenseth is done. At 42, Matt isn't exactly a spring chicken. He probably only has a few good years left.

any talk of chase runnin several '15 cup races under jr's nns team banner ? ie--5th hms car.

I think Hendrick boots Kahne if there's a real chance of losing Chase. Junior brings in the dollars and you honestly can't boot Johnson and Gordon. He's the odd man out.

I think Chase is smart enough to realize that the "9" was made famous by his dad. Like DEJr, he's already in his father's shadow,
he doesn't need the hassle of trying to take his dad's place in the car. Make his own way in the world. At least he doesn't carry
the Bill Jr. tag, also.

Oddly, Keselowski ran a whole lot better in the Finch car, which is no longer in the mix.

Another Pockrass, I need to find something to write about article. No Sources, " media buzz?", yeah they buzz all right but sources? He should be writing children's fairy tales. Jr has been popping off all week about driving for JR Motorsports..Contract renewal time for Jr or what?...sources here at Racing Forum, speculate that something is awry at Hendrick Motorsports and Jr and Kelly have plans on expanding JR motorsports to the cup level.

While the concentration camps were not as tragic as Chase being deprived of the # 9, he can at least be inspired by the triumph of the survivors.
He is young and time heals a lot of things.
Godspeed, and hopefully he will find the courage to survive as well.
