No Crew Members On Pit Road After The Race, Idea

Kyle Petty brought up an interesting point last night on NASCAR America on NBCS/N, that maybe NASCAR should follow what F-1 does by not allowing crew members to go the cars after the race is over, maybe its not a bad idea , make it a cool down period where only the drivers and NASCAR officials and Network reporters are allowed on pit road after the race.

His point was, if the drivers want to hash it out, fine, but it should only be drivers , no crew members , and NASCAR is going to know if there might a problem, so they could make sure that there are plenty of officials on standby in case something does happen.
 
Kyle Petty needs to release his pigtail because it is cutting off the blood flow to his brain.

The pit crew IS the team. Those guys deserve the little bit of celebration afforded them in the pits after a race.

A better idea would be to ban cameras and reporters from the pits after a race except for a few controlled areas.

That would be one side effect, and I do agree, I dont want to see anything that is going to take the emotion out of NASCAR, but I we dont need fights after every race either.

I think the point he was trying to make, was let the drivers go at it without the crew members jumping in, which to a point, I agree, no more hand holding the drivers back , if they have the balls to make swing, there will be no one there to stop it other than the officials, and maybe they shouldn't be there either.

If the crews are going to go at it, they will go at, but, it does get old seeing drivers surround by their teams protecting them, but it is a team sport.

You missed the point, he was trying to give the drivers more room to fight , without the crew members getting involved , that was his whole point, making pit road the ring if you will, and if they want to fight, so be it.
 
If it leads to Brad getting a black eye, maybe this rule would be worth it :biggrin: nah, I'd settle for Kyle Busch getting knocked on his ass I guess.

I agree . Anyone who has ever been to a race knows Nascar goes way overboard in allowing media, sponsors , fans etc. access to the pit road and garage area . These areas are the workplace for crews and drivers and access should be restricted to crews and drivers .

He's decent in the booth, he has a lot of knowledge but he was never nothing more than a Derrike Cope wiffa famous daddy on the racetrack.

I know he was pretty mediocre for most of his career, especially the latter stages, but wasn't he actually kind of good at first?
 
i look at Kyle like i do DW, i could sit and listen all day at them telling old racing stories, but don't want hear either calling a race
 
You guys seem to forget that Kyle was spending a lot of time with his singing career to devote all his time to racing. I like Kyle in the booth, sometimes he drives me nuts but that's his job.

As far as pit crews over the wall, there the most important part of the team. Without them a driver is nothing. They should be able to celebrate. Sometimes things ge carried away but mostly it's a good thing to see them in on the celebration.

He was fair at best early on.
Richard bought him into Cup without enough experience.
His first win at Richmond was more like a default deal. Earnhardt Sr and Darrell Waltrip wiped each other out in the final lap and two and two other cars ahead of him had issues as well.
His best years was with Felix Sabatas (sp?). 1992 probably was his best year from a time line perspective that would have been about mid way.
I wouldn't call his career mediocore it was also better than journey man status.

Hindsight is 20/20 but he probably would have been better served to have come up through the grass root ranks first rather being propelled into Cup racing with almost no experience. The way Bobby Allison groomed Davey for the big time was a better method.
Note: Davey probably had more natural talent it definitely was demonstrated. Still the same Kyle would been better served by learning the fundamentals first before entering cup.

The learning curve was slow but when he was in the Sabatas Mello Yellow car with about 10 years of experience I would say he was very good for about three years.
 
I like Kyle because he says what he thinks and he pisses off sooooooo many people.

but I see no problem with the crew being held back.
 
Simple rule. Crewman can touch ONLY their driver. Drivers can touch ONLY their crewman.

Yeah once Jr fell out I was wanting Kevin. Hopefully he wins this weekend. If not I'll see who is in the final 4 and pick my guy. Gordon not be to bad (can't believe I typed that)
