Larry Mac is reporting that starting in 2012 there will be no more driver to driver communications. This rule is to be in effect for all races starting @ Daytona. They will not allow drivers to talk to each other on radio, nor can they talk to other team's spotter or crew chief.

That should help to break up the two car tandems somewhat. If you've ever listened to the radio communication at all during the plate races since this two car tandem thing started that communication seems to be essential.

1. No comm link to other drivers

2. Smaller rear spoiler

What does this equal = MORE WRECKING!!!!

That's just what is going to happen, and I'm not wishing for this.

Pack racing, or a parade will be the norm, till the end. And then somebody will just start pushing you weather you like it, or weather you don't.

Hang on ya'll, it's going to be a nap before the brawl!

I like this rule. I enjoy the pod racing, but the direct communication is the one thing that allowed teams to take it too far with the mission control radio setups.

Now it's back to driver, spotter, spotter, driver messages, and that makes it a whole lot harder to do.

yeah FB, the spotters have had it easy this last year.

Time to work for that money!

Yea, I'm with MOEJOE on this one, this is just going to end badly.

I think we'll end up with pod racing for a few laps to start the race, then the long train for too long, then pod confusion to end the race with real excitement. It will turn RP racing back into the crap shoot it used to be, but that's what the fans want.

Im betting Dega will be even more of a critical lynch pin next year for the chase.

More than ever before.

Face it. Fans will ***** about it if they allow it to continue. Fans will also ***** about it if they try to change it. But then again, we are all experts on this, right? ;)

I have never read a truer post. But I guess that is what makes it interesting.:)

I am going to go out on a limb and say I think the pack and pod racing will be gone because of the new fuel delivery system and the smaller spoiler.

We've already seen from the testing at 'Dega that EFI will have no effect on the tandems. Not sure about the smaller spoiler.

Pack racing be gone? What? You obviously are smoking the drapes man.

Saw this elsewhere.....

FOR SALE: multiple radio harnesses that have ability to mount channel changer on dash. Contact any CUP team.

I guess some fans really miss 'the big one'. I don't. Long nap before the brawl is a perfect description.

I like the idea of the smaller spoiler. Now they need to lose the splitter and speed will mean something again.

No driver to driver communications will only cause more wrecked cars. ALL the drivers know that the two car draft is still faster and they'll still have to do it now they'll just be wrecking each other more often.

I think it's a bad move by NASCAR trying to Appease fans that will never be happy.

Plate Racing (EFI or CARb) should be for exhibition (and CA$H) - with NO Points awarded to drivers or owners.

I would vote to have all 4 replaced with awesome road courses, myself... ;)

daytona has a road course. Might as well run it and make it exciting.

Talladega used to have a road course. They tore it out when they reconfig's the infield.

I wonder what will replace the plate now that NASCAR has gone EFI.

This is going to be a mess.

They ran IROC on the Daytona Road Course (in Firebirds) and it was a fabulous race!

Not over yet. NASCAR said they would listen to all the team's opinions and could change their mind before next season.

If NASCAR doesn't want to turn the plate races into the demolition derby, they'd let the teams communicate with one another.

Looks like Hendrick Motorsports has already found a way around this new rule of not being able to have driver to driver radio communications.....

Fox Sports television analyst Larry McReynolds revealed Wednesday via Twitter that NASCAR will likely ban radio communication between drivers during the Daytona 500 in order to discourage the two-car drafts.

In light of the potential rule change, our satirist @nascarcasm did some digging and discovered some secret correspondence between two high-profile Hendrick Motorsports drivers.

No word yet as to whether NASCAR will crack down on this type of communication as well.

From here.

I have just two questions

No 1 How long have the drivers been communicating as they are today?
No 2 What did they do before that?

Don't see how there could be many more wrecks.

And if it does happen I don't think it about fans I think it's about TEAM ORDERS

lol on the classroom note DP.

The first pod race I can remember was 2009 spring race at Talladega, and it was done through the spotters. I think it wasn't until 2010 that teams started using multi-channel radios to communicate with teammates. That xpanded into the 15 or 16 channel radios they now use.
