Dale Earnhardt, Inc., is looking at Dale Jarrett [NOTE: signed thru 2006 with Yates], according to sources. Ty Norris, the general manager of DEI, said: 'If Dale Jarrett was on the market, and if DEI were looking for a driver, there's not a more experienced guy, with tons of class, who sponsors love, and who has tremendous ability ... but we're still hot and heavy in our sponsor search. And if you rated it hot, medium or cold, we're pretty cold right now. "When we have a sponsor who is ready to sit down and talk about what driver they'd like, we'll approach it then. But there's not an organization in this garage that wouldn't love to have Dale Jarrett. Dale and I are friends, and Dale is friends with Dale Jr. But I've never had a conversation with him about driving for us ... except 'who wouldn't want him to drive for you.''
 
If his contract is through 2006 (Dale Jarrett) that would be an expensive buy out. Don't see it happening. The Dale and Dale show would also be confusing for the sponsorship's
 
arent Mikey and DJ golfin buddies too?

that would be stange if DJ did change over to chevy, can't blame him for wanting to. RYR is a mess right now...

Boy are they ever.

I listen to DJs radio week in and week out. It is always the same thing. The car is just, well, a pile of crap. Not an ounce of consistant crap from track to track either. One week one car is doing x while the next week another car is doing y. Whatever adjustments they make tends to be too late becuase they are already a lap down.

He has said in interviews that they hope that they have righted to ship but I will bet you that if things are not any better by the end of the year he may in fact look into leaving.
 
Question is, how did this free fall start? Somewhere along the line they must have taken a wrong turn, but where?

For Jarrett to be 29th in points halfway through the season is just, for a lack of a better term, pathetic.
 
Dale Jarrett places the blame on Todd Parrott. He was in charge of building the all chassis' and DJ has said that they were finding each chassis to be different when the goal was to have them all the same. He has also indicated that he has had a hard time adapting to change. They just got through ordering 10 Hopkins chassis' and are in the process of building new cars. Sounds like alot of money got flushed down the ****ter.
 
Well if Jeff Green is going to be replaced, I'd like someone to replace him who I like, and Jarrett's one of my favorites. Is their any way Jarrett could bring UPS with him? They seem a lot more attached to Jarrett than they do RYR.

They do have 1,000 commercials with him in it.
 
DEI would have an unbeatable dream team with Dale Earnhardt Jr, Michael Waltrip and Dale Jarrett. Think of the possibilities !!! (Happy29 jumps out window)

Just curious: When a team lets a driver go before the contract is up, do the drivers get paid for the remaining year or two? If not, fair should be fair.

Dale Jarrett's No. 88 Ford team, scheduled to test this week for the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, chose instead to pack up and come home Monday after having another bad day in Sunday's Tropicana 400 at Chicagoland Speedway.

"We decided, in light of how the 88 team ran that we're going to send those guys home and regroup," Doug Yates, general manager for the Robert Yates Racing team said at Indianapolis.

"The car the 88 ran in Chicago was a brand new car. It was untested, but we had high hopes that it would do well. Unfortunately, it was 180 degrees from that. It was probably our worst day of the year. We were planning to test that car here, but, obviously, there's no reason to unload the car. It's not going to do much better here than it did there."

Jarrett finished 30th in Sunday's race.

"We're not giving up by any means," Yates said. "We know we've got a Winston Cup champion as a driver and we've got a bunch of good guys on our race team. Right now, we're just missing something."

At least one published report over the weekend speculated about Jarrett's future with the team.

"Everybody would love to have Dale Jarrett drive their race car," Yates said. "Dale and I have talked and we've come a long way together. ...He started that 88 team and we expect him to finish out his career in that car."

"...We have a contract through next year with him and we're working on an extension."

UPS, the team's sponsor, is signed for three more years
 
Couple of things..........first and foremost being the article which is quoted at the first post does NOT say DEI is looking at DJ as a driver, it says they wish they were. Ty says clearly he has had no contact with DJ. Besides which Mike Mulhern wrote it.

The car which RYR decided not to carry to Indy this week is the first of the new Hopkins chassis. Apparently the team has not sorted this chassis out yet. No surprise.

Don't know if this was mentioned around here, but last week the Indianapolis Star was reporting that Bill Riley the co founder and technical guru of Riley and Scott will be leaving that firm and going to work for Robert Yates Racing as their chassis design engineer effective July 21.

i can only hope that Dj never goes to DEI
i think he is my least favorite driver don't think i could ever pull for them to win if he was there.

I know. He is such an arrogant ass that thinks about nothing other then himself. Oh, he can not drive a car worth a damn either. :rolleyes:

Why? that wasn't a Pontiac DJ was driving when he was Joe Gibbs 1st driver in WC.
 
Correct.It was that hideous and garish Interstate batteries chevy! :P Without doubt the ugliest paint scheme in WC history.
 
Dale Earnhardt Jr is looking at Dale Jarrett??? Duh, that just proves the rumors are true. Jr is a stool pusher.

:XXROFL: The diecast I have of that car is missing a tire too...but, that is what got me to become a DJ fan since I was a huge GB Packer fan at the time & with Joe Gibbs connection with the NFL. I wish that JGR still used the NFL driver's helments. I'm guessing they don't because the NFL isn't an associate sponsor on the #18 anymore? I took a picture of the Packer helment that Bobby used at the Daytona 500 after the Packers won the super bowl when we were down at JGR last year. :)

Again I say, why not? He drove the Chebie Lump-i-na for Joe Gibbs Racing. Got his 1st Daytona 500 win in that car.

All depends on the contract.

But in this businees there is an old saying........ "contracts are made to be broken."
