From Jayski:

Roush Says Toyota Team Stole "Proprietary Part": ESPN the Magazine has an interesting and potentially explosive quote from Roush Fenway Racing co-owner Jack Roush as part of its 10th Anniversary issue, which is on newsstands this week. Two weeks ago at Atlanta Motor Speedway, the magazine quotes Roush as saying, “We had a proprietary Roush Fenway part go missing from one of my race teams, and we recovered it from a Toyota team. I’m not going to say which team it is, but we are considering legal action, or getting NASCAR involved.” If Roush’s allegations prove to be true, this could become NASCAR’s version of the recent spy scandal that rocked Formula One racing, in which the McLaren-Mercedes team was caught with confidential, proprietary test information belonging to rival Ferrari. We contacted Roush Fenway Racing today in search of further information – including team was involved and the specific part in question -- and we [SIRIUS Speedway w/ Dave Moody] hope to have a statement from them later today.(Motorsports Soapbox)(3-25-2008)

My question --- How did Roush know where to look?

What I don't like is Roush condemning "Toyota" in general. If the part was copied and distributed to all Toyota teams, then he has a point.

Why not nail the team that took the part? If indeed, it was "taken".

This sounds mostly like Rousch crying about things just because they aren' Ford....or more specifically, Rousch fords.

Gee VA, you sounding a little hateful there, LOL I wonder if it will come to pass or get swept under the rug. Or could a team member sold it, this could be fun, I like Roush, but I like a little drama better. Duane

Grumble gruble, that's me:mad:

I really don't dislike Rousch, but he's long been the squeeky wheel, and one of the biggest complainers in the Ford camp.

wonder if it was the pop off bolts for the oil cover...lmao

before too long, he'll be the lone ford team left.

I'm not going to assume Roush is or isn't telling the truth. All I know is he has whined in the past about other teams/manufacturers. Anyone remember the tire scandal he threw out against Evernham and Hendrick? When it was announced that Toyota was coming to NASCAR's Cup Series, he was dead set against it. He went off about a bunch of things, none of it having to do with racing. It sounded like he was afraid of the competition or jealous that Ford wouldn't throw him as many bones as what TRD was going to throw at their teams.

I remember all of it MRM. I haven't been a big fan of Roush since he accused Ray and Jeff of soaking the tires.

And don't forget him saying that RCR had pinholes in the rims to bleed off excess tire pressure.

And SPEED sat there spewing that bs. That pizzed me off.

That SPEED Channel, Dillner, I still hold a grudge against him. He was wrong. He reported something to be a proven accurate fact. He was wrong and he should've admitted that he had bad information or something. Instead, he kept running his mouth about Harvick, RCR and NASCAR because he seemingly knows all.

I'd like to see him and that network provide an animation on how the eff Harvick could do such a thing.

Needless to say I don't believe a word that comes out of his mouth. I watch ESPN NASCAR NOW. I watch RaceDay because I like Jimmy, Kenny, John and Wendy - but I will take Marty Smith's word over Bob Dillner's word anyday.

You mean, that wasn't true ????

According to Bob Dillner it is. Furthermore, it's a fact that NASCAR said something about it and was going to release a statement on Tuesday.

Still waiting Bob!

That was the one I was thinking of, but couldn't remember the details.

TRD says the part in question came from the result of a teardown and could have been a part thrown in with their parts, but was returned. This won't be the last we hear of this.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Toyota officials on Wednesday identified the Roush Fenway Racing part that owner Jack Roush said was found in a Toyota team's possession during a Sprint Cup post-race teardown as a spring.

Jim Aust, the president and chief executive officer of Toyota Racing Development, said once the part was found to belong to RFR that it was returned. He was uncertain how the part, discovered on a table with other Toyota parts, got there or from which team it came.

"I don't understand the whole procedure when a teardown happens," said Aust, referring to a post-race process in which several cars are broken down by NASCAR inspectors. "The only thing I know is it wound up with parts we had and [which were] returned to Roush.

"It's unfortunate it happened the way it did. It wasn't anything intentional. There's no reason to be done intentional. I have no idea how it happened to begin with."

Roush Fenway president Geoff Smith said the part in question was not a spring, but he would not elaborate. No one at RFR has identified which Toyota team had the part.

"Jack is the only one to talk to at this time and he presently doesn't want to make any additional comments," Smith said.

The part became an issue after a quote from Roush three weeks ago at Atlanta Motor Speedway appeared in the March 7 issue of ESPN The Magazine.

"We had a proprietary Roush Fenway part go missing from one of my race teams and we recovered it from a Toyota team," Roush said in the article. "I'm not going to say which team it is, but we are considering legal action or getting NASCAR involved."

Robin Pemberton, the vice president of competition for the series, said NASCAR has not been approached by Roush and this is an issue that needs to be settled between the teams.

"Stuff like that happens all the time," Pemberton said, "some by accident, some on purpose. Those guys need to fix it themselves. We don't get in the middle of team squabbles.

"We'll listen to what they say, but at the end of the day they're responsible for how they behave in the garage."

Roush's accusation came on a weekend in which he was under fire for a violation found on Carl Edwards' winning car at Las Vegas. Edwards was docked 100 points and his crew chief suspended for six weeks because the oil reservoir lid was off, creating what NASCAR officials called an aerodynamic advantage.

Roush got into a war of words with Toyota general manager Lee White after White told USA Today that he believed the violation was not accidental.

Roush challenged White's integrity while working in his organization early in his career. He also alleged that Michael Waltrip's car wasn't the only Toyota that had "jet fuel" in it at the 2007 Daytona 500, although only Waltrip was cited by NASCAR.

White said he was looking into the allegation of a missing part and would refrain from comment until Friday at Martinsville, Va., site of this week's Sprint Cup race.

"The reality is Jack was madder than hell [at Atlanta]," White said. "He was upset there and maybe justifiably so. I only found out about the missing part [on Tuesday]. I am in no position to comment."

The part was returned, no harm, no foul.

For a guy who's got two wins this year and someone who wants to even the playing field, Roush sure does want NASCAR to give him everything his way.

Why don't they just give Carl Edwards the championship if that's what will make Ford, and Roush, happy?

Because we all know Roush has the cleanest reputation in the books.

I don't know, Bobby. If the part was stolen, why didn't Jack raise hell at the time?

There are just too many things that don't add up.

Seems to me that Jack had a vendetta against Toyota before they even had a car on the track. Jack seems to think sometimes that his crap doesn't stink, that Nascar should always bow to him, even though in this instance he might be completely wrong. You are right though something does not add up here. The fact that it coencided with Edwards' penalty raises a warning flag for me, he was really pissed, so it might of been a get even thing. Either way i have lost a lot of respect for Jack, Mark Martin(when he was with Jack), and all the Rousch Fenway guys. I hope Jack gets a taste of his own medicine, however it plays out it should make for an interesting season rivalry between the two.;)

If it were Roush being blamed for stealing a part, he'd have been drawn and quartered on here by now.

No investigation, no trial, just calls for his banishment from Nascar.

Thats because everyone knows Jack did it.

That's not true. There's a lot of fans on here with a bunch of respect for Roush. I've always been a fan of DJ as my "old school" fave. (Sad to see him go) anyhow, when Roush and Yates got together on engines I started respecting what Jack Roush can do, and has done, for not only Ford, but NASCAR. He's vocal and doesn't take sh!t. I respect that. Sometimes when you're vocal you say things that, later on, you may regret or realize weren't exactly true. jack hates on Toyota because of the GM (or whatever) that left his camp to head over there. It obviously wasn't a pretty separation. So, when it comes to anything Toyota-Roush related, I think every fan has to take whatever is said by either side with a grain of salt. There's clearly animosity there.

Well said.

Some drivere are applauded for speaking out while others jeered.

Jack Roush is almost on a level with Satan - or so it would sometimes seem - while others are elevated to near Gods.

All I'm saying is that give Roush a chance to present his evidence and if he's wrong, then an apology is in order.

If he isn't, theives should be dealt with - no matter who they stole from.
