Only Three Races in and Fox Seems Worse To Me Than Ever

like it or not folks....fox -n- nbc gonna be w/ us a long time ....after tnt / espn leaves this yr.

my ole azz don't like tha goofy crap like mikey does....... give me eli gold type broadcast ----just call tha friggin race.
..........but that's fox' signature theme ---think terry bradshaw--nfl pre game. fun w/ in tha game.

fox honcho david hill called it "jocularity" . even sounds like a dw word don't it ! ha!

that's fs1/ fox's way ta compete w/ espn / abc.
nascar is only small piece in fox's line-up. get used ta it.

The coverage seems to be about the same as it has been. The Waltrips have the gift of gab but sometimes they say things that make me go What?

After the first TNT race last season there was a thread about how bad the coverage was, the same thing when ESPN started, and now we've gone full circle. I'm just happy to have coverage on a channel I get.
ESPN has far and away the best in-race production and announcers, although they do miss the occasional incident or too (like Elliott Sadler's wreck at Pocono that was one of the hardest ever recorded). The sport has a minimal presence on SportsCenter though, and good luck finding NASCAR Now any time other than at 2 AM. TNT has a couple of solid announcers in Petty and Dallenbach but the constant commercials disrupt the flow of the broadcast.

NBC/NBCSN has shown a lot of promise, and their IndyCar/F1 coverage is better than that of their competitors and predecessors.

I remember a few years ago at one of the plate races, Jr. had problems and was running a full half lap behind the entire rest of the pack, unable to catch up to them. Unbelievably, Fox kept the camera on Jr. alone for quite some time while the ENTIRE field of cars was running a full lap ahead! It was completely nuts!
How about when they had a camera isolated on Casey Mears during one of the Duels last month when he was running out of gas and the rest of the field was on the final lap?

It finally dawned on me yesterday what Fox does with their broadcasts. Instead of covering a race as it unfolds, they are doing a racing TV show with a race that just happens to take place while they're doing it. ....

Didn't they do something with commercials ? Like show Dale Jr for a while , mention his sponsor ,then say" If You Want To Kickstart Your Life " watch this ...then cut to a Mountain Dew commercial . It seemed like one long infomercial to me.

NASCAR is enveloped by advertising. Doesn't surprise me.

Do what I usually do. Put the race on a muted TV & either listen to MRN or driver radios. As long as the race is on and I'm here to witness it - it's all gravy baby.

For those of you that like the Waltrips or any of the other crap from today's Nascar coverage, get on youtube and watch an ESPN or TNN race from the 90s, hell even a CBS race, and compare those broadcasts to the garbage we see today. It's nearly unfathomable how awful things have become.

I still love Nascar, but man, Fox makes it really hard to watch sometimes.

I can close my eyes and picture Benny smiling explaining something. He was very much a fan. He made me want to continue to watch races. Fox makes me want to use "other" methods to watch races.

I watched the entire race on Fox, sound muted, PRN streaming. Only drawback was the stream was about 2 laps behind (which is easliy fixed by pausing TV for a few seconds). It's honestly the only way I can watch anymore. Darrell, Mikey, Jeff, and Larry give racing a bad name.

I recently ditched Comcast, and the local Fox channel is 5 x 5 with my HD antenna. So is the MRN affiliate FM station in the next county, so I can watch Waltrip-free, and not miss anything if I need to go to the kitchen for something. Got Comcast to stream Sky1 for the F1 opener this weekend. Woo-hoo!

Btw, meant to say I got Google Chromecast for streaming, not Comcast. Sorry for any confusion.

Does anyone else get annoyed by that stupid "Crank It Up" thing they do? It's literally the exact same angle/sound over and over again from different points on the track. Why can't they have at least one camera pointed the same direction that the cars are driving instead of every shot oncoming?

I agree . Sounds no different to me . I always think that somewhere out there ..there must be a thirteen year old with a six foot wide tv set hooked to a monster stereo going crazy.

I like the "Crank It Up" segment, because it shuts the Waltrips up for a few seconds.

I used to like it because they'd do it for several minutes. Now, it's only a few seconds and utterly pointless.

What's sad is how good Mike Joy, Darrell Waltrip and Larry McReynolds are during the practice and qualifying broadcasts and how annoying they are on the race broadcasts. I enjoy the practice broadcasts because you'll learn so much more, about the drivers, teams, cars and the sport in general, in a 90 minute practice broadcast on SPEED FOX Sports 1 than you will watching every single race broadcast on FOX.
