Our Best Ideas For Modifying The Chase

So you could theoretically win the first 35 races, be leading by a mile in the last race, get taken out by a lapped car driving like a clown, and still manage to finish 2nd.....and you lose the championship.

I get what you're saying, but there are wayyyyy too many variables. Any system with a points reset before the final race is a joke IMO.

I am not a fan of the points reset before the finale either and it is unfair when a guy loses a championship because of someone else’s stupidity.

It does makes some sense to have a diverse schedule for the final four races, but I think a super speedway and road course race presents too much of a wild card result. When it comes down to determining a champion the driver and team should be primarily in charge of the outcome. I would be OK with something like Homestead, Martinsville, Darlington and Charlotte and NO gimmick tire choices.

Let's DOIT for one year and see what happens.
I also like your track choices. Darlington certainly makes sense. I counted Atlanta as the superspeedway, since it has great racing that isn’t pack focused. Homestead is a track you can count on for good weather in November.

I like these choices but I think NASCAR wouldn't want all of the races in the final round to be in the southeast. In today's economy, having Martinsville, Darlington, and Charlotte so close together would really hurt attendance.

If that was a concern, I’d nominate these tracks using my original concept of 4 different types of courses, with the first three in no particular order:
Historic Short Track - Martinsville
Superspeedway - Atlanta
Road Course - COTA
Finale At Classic 1.5 mile - Rotate between Las Vegas and Homestead. Maybe throw in California’s short track also if it ever gets built. Some will want to include Phoenix, but I’m tired of that track as a finale.

Love Darlington but putting it as one of the final four could pull it from Labor Day weekend, and that’s a tradition that needs to continue.
