hearing from sources that Steve Park and Dale Earnahrdt Inc have parted ways or that Park will step out of the #1 Pennzoil ride for a few races.(5-6-2003)

if this is indeed true then we could be seeing shane hmiel in this car very soon... they are looking for a sponsor on the busch side and if they dont find anything they could close up shop and put hmiel in the #1 car
poor fab guys... will be ALOT of wrecked cars there

ESPN is reporting the separation as well. Though their story is a permanent sounding deal. The story is credited to Mike Massaro of ESPN though no source is named.
Can't say that anyone should be shocked, but didn't this same story surface at this same time last year??

Yeh it did, but i think it is a little more serious this time. Park has really been pathetic of late , i hate to say that, but it is the truth. I like the guy a lot and met him when he was driving a Modified back east, but he really needs to re-evaluate where he is in his career, maybe drop down to trucks and hone his skills again.

As much as I like Park I think a change is needed for Park and DEI. maybe this is for real this time.

Found the timing ironic more than anything else.
A couple or three weeks back I too decided that Steve needed to regroup. Whether his woes are lingering from the injury, a product of confidence, or succumbing to the ever increasing pressure I have no idea. I really do not think the problem lies in his basic race skills.
If he can catch on in situation where the pressure if lessened and like mopardh said, rediscover his edge and perhaps build some confidence, he should be able to make his back. But that may be a tough if to overcome.
Again, assuming these stories are confirmed.

you could see this coming, personally im surprised it took this long, should be interesting to see who is in the #1 and #30 cars for a permanent ride.

Yes, he's gone for the rest of the season, with next week off it makes sense for the driver changes during the Tuesday team meetings! And you guys bashed me for picking on him! Look for Sam Hornish to do some testing next month after Indy.

Got to feel bad for Steve.Just bad karma at DEI,I guess.In my opinion,with the right team,Steve is still good enough to succeed in Cup.Maybe Green and Park could swap rides?Far-fetched but it was done with Mayfield and Andretti a few years back.

Green will be driveing the 1 car. I can't belive that. I thought when you cut one driver you try to improve.. Well they didn't improve with Greem.

Hell of a modified racer, terrible Cup driver.
IMO this was a year too late, but at least he's out. Hopefully he doesn't find another ride, I know that sounds mean but he doesn't belong out there.
