If you get basic cable its probably cheaper to do pay-per-view than upgrading to get TNT, ESPN2, and FS1.

Depending on the price, maybe. If the price was right I would gut my cable package and pay less for more. :)

Cable companies suck. Especially TWC. They load my cable package up with ****t that I would NEVER watch. Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese, etc.
I wish they'd let you pick the channels that you want and let you pay $1 per channel per month. I only watch about 10 channels, max.

I know this sounds counter-intuitive, but I would be most excited to go PPV for the races that are traditional snoozers. At least that way, I can scan the field for decent track position battles, and at least make a decent experience out of a turd like Saturday night in KY. The best racing on the track was 12-25.

Which is why NASCAR racing is best viewed live. With TV you only get to see what the network allows you to see. There's almost always something going on somewhere on the track.

at $ 820 mill / yr.......you can bet fox / nbc are tossin ideas around on how ta further monetize their content.
includin some sorta ' beyond '14 ppv type biz model w/ new tech '. price point will be critical w/ this demo.

have no friggin idea what that is .......but they 're on hook for 10 yrs.....so you can bet it's gettin discussed.

whatever it is.....prolly be 2 diff pkg's ......1 fox ...1 nbc .
1 does it 1st......other copies it. ie.....netflix .....hulu

If the web based "WWE Network" works out well (I have it and love it, $9.99 a month)

A similar "NASCAR Network" would be incredible.

Again, as stated already...the price would be the determining factor for me. I voted no though for the poll. I paid for the upgraded cable package so I could get FS1, but with that came many other channels. I'd definitely not pay any more than $8 for a race. For Kentucky, they couldn't get more than .50 from me...

a month with a 5 race weekend on top of what already paying for tv could get mighty high

again ...wild guess.
will be pkg deal ....1st 1/2 from fox pkg.....2nd 1/2 from nbc pkg.
But.....gotta have fs2.....and ....nbcsn2 - in future.
so it helps build out those small networks. ??

wild price guess......49.95 ea. or less per pkg.

nbc is 1st w/ it.

then again ....i said 16 winners this yr ! ha!

I would pay for a Raceview-like service where you could pick any driver, not just the 5 that NASCAR.com decides to broadcast each week. I already pay for the scanner; I'd have no problem paying for a guaranteed in-car camera. Whenever JJ is on Raceview I rarely pay attention to the broadcast unless something big is happening.

Would I ?, yes, but like everything, I need to know how much first , and with every passing year, what I would be willing pay keeps getting smaller and smaller.

What in hell would the experts who know everything about everything whine about if there were no commercials...wait, nevermind.

My first thought is yes, I only have directv for the racing, and I am paying quite a bit to see it all.

But I dont think PPV would be good for consumers. They would just call it enhanced and filter out some stuff we are currently getting. Then collect more dough for the enhancement, while still forcing you to pay for FS1 to see the race in a more basic format, etc....

Nascar has their bean counter consultants like everyone else. Their job is to extract every nickel possibile, and higher quarterly earnings is the name of the game. Getting every cent possibile from the fan is good for them and PPV would just be another scabbed toll road.

HotPass may have failed but it sure wasn't because it was a bad product. That was one of the best ways to watch the race IMO. It's only downfall was that it was only available to DirecTV subscribers. I'd pay for a subscription to that in a heartbeat.

If a comparable package were offered for NASCAR similar to the NFL Sunday Ticket with some sort of limited commercial interruption or maybe a side by side coverage that's not available over the air, I'd purchase that.

It would seem it is time for Pay Per View Nascar races, no commercials, live feed, on track action from start to finish.

I hope not, otherwise they would lose a loyal ciewer(myself) but I'm not going to pay extra to watch Cup. Honestly, TNT, FOX & ESPN are just fine(IMO). I know sometimes I might vent about the coverage, commentators & commercials but that's just me having a good time here with everyone. I don't have a problem with the coverage as much as some of you guys, but I'm also not as much involved. I just kinda tune in on the weekends when I have time. But pay-per-view wouldn't be an option for me, I guess I would just view the results & interviews online the following day if Nascar ever went that direction.

Dirt late model racing has been going the PPV route of late and seem to be doing okay with it. But to watch what they offer, it adds up in a hurry. I pay enough for TV as it is, so I don't participate in it.

The June Pocono race used to be PPV back in the late 80's. It must have been a flop because it only lasted a couple of years.

I've got to wonder how many households could have possibly had access to this back then. The numbers have to be pretty small compared to today's access. Cable was not available anywhere near where I lived. Satellite television was also in it's infancy at that point to the average consumer.

Yeah, I thought HotPass was kind of neat too. I didn't have DirecTV at the time but might of gotten HotPass if it was available on cable. I had family friends who had it and I thought it was really neat.

You read the race threads? About 75% of the posters are complaining about the commercials.

The other 25% complain about the idjits in the booth

I didn't read the last one due to the now expected complaining about commercials. They are a part of television and crying about them does absolutely nothing to decrease thier frequency.

Tell ya what, you may be right, but again you may be wrong. When fans complain about not being able to see the race because of too many commercials, and almost 40% of the race was missed because of them, I for one happen to think they have a valid point. The reason this thread exists is because of the excessive commercial complaints, and would we pay to not see the damn things. Problem is, it might start out as commercial less, but then half the screen would be blocked, and then a commercial here and there and before long not only paying per view, but full of commercials. Just like cable was when it started. Capitalism, free market economy and all that.

Television has been about 1/3 commercials for some time. There were less commercials when there were just three channels - before cable.

And there was a time when you knew the cars by the name of the sponsor but now it seems many cars have a different sponsor for every race which makes it hard to follow my favorite drivers because I don't follow the periodic sponsor changes.

I’d pay $10.00 for commercial free coverage for a la cart service. Road courses and plate races I don’t watch much of as it is. Fast forwarded thru most of Kentucky Sunday morning.. Read about them Monday. Any controversial parts or outstanding finishes are usually on video on the web if a review is desired.

Bristol, Richmond, Martinsville, Darlington, etc., I’d pay for.

There is no way anyone can do a PPV do it for $4.99 or $10. The cost alone is higher than that.

I'd be willing to subscribe to a Nascar channel or pay around 100 to 200 bucks a year for some better, less commercial filled coverage, like a ppv package of some sort. It'd be worth that to me.

If you want new fans you don't do PPV and I doubt the network that provides coverage would want PPV available.

Looks like almost 2 to 1 against PPV

I already pay to watch NA$CAR if I want to see the truck or Nationwide races I have to have cable or a dish to watch, also if was into the qualifying well that has to be watched on cable/dish too. So I say no thank you.

I think that Pay Per View would just be an alternative. Otherwise it would be a complete failure.
It would have to be only an alternative tell at least 2022 when the next Tv contract ends

comcast owns nbc.
comcast already has xfinity on demand .........so basic infrastructure is already in place.
we'll see.

I had NFL Ticket and it was ok a bit pricey but I wanted to watch my Bolts. I remember Directv giving races free to Sunday Ticket subscribers on a limited basis to try and boost sales. The format sucked as the view was out of the driver you picked windshield shot with no audio and only occasional radio chatter. I no likey.

With NASCAR Raceview Mobile, NASCAR Mobile and Trackpass Scanner my races are already commercial free. Costs me about $90 per year. Worth every penny.

PPV just wouldn't really benefit me.
