Phoenix Racing officially sold.

So if its Turner/Scott will they continue their alliance with HMS in Cup?

Good for Allgaier if true he seems like a good kid, I think he deserves an opportunity although I doubt he does much but we'll see. Has Allgaier run any Cup races as of yet?

I agree and, no, he hasn't.

Yeah I wish they would get it over with..all this super secret stuff. Finch said they would announce Friday or Monday. If it is Allgaier, he has been doing ok in Nationwide, Piquet hasn't been setting the world on fire, he showed some promise in the trucks, but had been pretty much of a dud in N'wide so far this year. He might have a strong sponsor I suppose. Qualcom is a big outfit.

If Turner/Scott does this right they could be a very successful team in Cup. They seem to do really well with sponsorship in the lower ranks, but the lower ranks is a lot cheaper too. Allgaier is good for the rest of this year, but they need to go after a Kurt Busch or Ryan Newman in my opinion for next year and beyond. Get either of those two for the flagship ride, and maybe open up a second ride for their NNS/Truck drivers for development reasons.

I sure as hell wouldn't leave for a new team if I was Kurt..Newman..he had better take what he can get. But Brant/Allgaier, or Piquet/Qualcomm looks better then Newman/? to me.

I believe you're right . If they do make this deal ,it will be because they have one of those driver/sponsor combinations signed.

I think that if they're going to be successful then they need to closely align themselves with HMS or one of the other big teams. Perhaps they should look at a team like the 78 of FRR as being a model to mimic. I totally agree on the driver choice as well, I think it would be imperative for them to go out and get a solid veteran Cup driver once they get the program off its feet. The 78 team is showing what a top driver can do with a small team that's serious about competing, and I'm all for more of those teams. Hopefully the new owners have a long term plan for success because I would fully expect a couple of tough years ahead.

Does TurnerScott currently produce their own chassis for NNS? I thought I read that HMS supplies the engines but I'm not sure about the rest. Curious to see if they will look to have cars supplied like SHR does or build their own.

I would love to see Allgier in cup. He really deserves it. Yay!!!!!!! Especially if Turner gets good Hendrick ewuitment that would be AMAZING!

Anyways, I thought of a scienerio. Say Scott buys Finch and puts Allgier in. Maybe Turner buys another team (TBR maybe?) for Piquet Jr to run in. That wold make sense if the stuff about Piquet going to cup is true.

So Brandt says they have nothing to do with this deal... When are we gonna get some info?

Harry Scott Jr. completes purchase of Phoenix Racing; Justin Allgaier to drive for new team.

Turner Scott Motorsports co-owner Harry Scott Jr. has agreed to purchase Phoenix Racing from James Finch and will have driver Justin Allgaier run at least three Sprint Cup races in the No. 51 car this season.

The team will operate separate from Turner Scott Motorsports, and TSM co-owner Steve Turner is not part of the deal, according to a news release from the team.

Running Allgaier only 3 races makes me think that this may be a trial run for him to see how he does in Cup. I don't expect much from Allgaier, and unless Scott decides to open up a 2 team next year I'd like to see him go after a more polished driver like Newman. Scott has an opportunity to do good thinks with the 51. He already has feeder teams in NNS and CWS to pull talent from.

He has a partner in those series. Don't know how happy Turner would be to be pulling drivers from something he is a partner in to something he doesn't have an interest in. A good recent example of that is Haas doing something his partner didn't approve. Partnerships suck for the most part and this is why.

something's still fishy on this deal.
if it's biz as usual...why all tha secrecy. ??
didn't see any mention a' 2014 in article ? ford maybe ?

Figures he'll use Allgaier a bit. That makes sense and I think he earned it, really. I just wonder who will drive the other seven races.

I agree with some of the others who think that he will draw from the stable of drivers they have been using in the other series . Don't know how long they can stick to a plan like that when there are free agents like Ryan Newman and Juan Pablo ? Maybe halfway through next year?

I wasn't talking about drivers.

Does Scott on his own have enough money to improve the 51? I don't get why he'd buy the team if he didn't have a driver in mind and was just going to do it part time with drivers.. Alligier might be a trial run but I wouldn't be surprised if he got next year as well.

My guess is this year is the transition year. Keep things the same for the most part while working in your policies. I am sure 2014 will be a different story with 1 driver full time. Possibly a second car that will be platooned. Seeing as it is Allgaier and Brandt for 3 races this year, maybe Scott is trying to show Brandt that Allgaier is ready for a Cup ride and they should move with him? Kind of testing the waters for Allgaier and the sponsor at the same time.

Who's they? All I see are I's and me's
"This is a very proud day for me as I will have the opportunity to compete against the best teams in motorsports in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series as the owner of Phoenix Racing," Scott said. "I am going to build a championship contender with hard work, the right people and the right partners. This team has a great foundation thanks to the efforts of James Finch. There is a lot to build upon and I am looking forward to getting started."

Scott said he has a driver in mind for the other seven races remaining in the 2013, adding the team would make another announcement on that front in the coming weeks.

Scott believes all that’s keeping the No. 51 car from being more consistently competitive is sponsorship -- and he says the team now has enough to finish out the 2013 season, as well as some already in place for the next two years.

“In my opinion, they’ve been on the cusp. They’ve been competitive at times, so they’ve shown the ability to be competitive. Really what they’ve lacked is sponsorship, and we’ve got some. We’ve been fortunate to team up with some good partners, and that, I think, is going to give us what those guys have needed as far as a little more resources to kind of get them over the hump, to kind of take them to the next level,” Scott said.

“That gives us the ability to plan and invest and know that we’ve got these two years to kind of prove ourselves and attract even more sponsorship. And potentially in ’16, maybe we’ll have two cars. It’s going to give us what we need in order to succeed, in order to be confident you’re making a good investment. We will have time to pay our dues.”

Blue sky B.S. He is way out on a limb, got a sponsor for three races, and a driver that isn't going to do squat for those three he has covered. I think he will do a better job of attracting sponsors than Finch did that's for sure, but he is starting from scratch with a one car team and without a driver.

Gotta love his optimism though, I suspect once they get out on the track and realize what they're up against that his tone will change. Still it's good for the sport to have guys like Scott come in and invest his money.

wonder if scott sold his interest back to turner in that partnership ?

YESYESYESYES Allgier better get the 51 next year because he will kick ass and win ROTY and be amazing.
