Unless I'm missing something they awarded the halfway bonus money about 20 laps past halfway (lap 176 vs 156) due to a large accident/fire on the front straight?

Never did he or anyone realize how iconic that moment would be!
This was a really entertaining race! Lots of twists and turns involving the race and the title chase. For whatever reason I didn't realize how many seats they added for this race relative to what Phoenix sat prior. 63k in 1988 was a pretty big figure. Lots of tracks still had less than 50k at that point.
