UMP Late Model Feature
The first lap saw Terry English take to the lead followed by Phil Walker and Ed Dixon. Dixon would take the second position from Walker on lap two. Walker would pull out of the race completely by lap four. Dixon would see a close up of the tail end of English’s car, and would challenge for the lead. While he made his charge Dixon would tag the wall. This would allow English some breathing room, but Dixon would regain this lost ground in just two laps. Riding behind them would be Joe Morris.
The first caution would be brought out by Don Edwards hitting the front stretch wall. Dixon would pop the wall hard on the restart, but it didn’t matter as the next caution was called on the restart lap. This caution was brought out by James Burrell spinning in turn one. The restart saw English and Dixon take to the point. Behind them Kenny Schrader was making some noise passing Rodney Melvin and making a run towards third place of Morris. Schrader would take third on lap fifteen, and set his sites for the second position.
Dixon would find himself right behind English on lap sixteen but lap traffic would allow English to gain a car length advantage over Dixon. Dixon would pull his nose right to English’s rear end on lap nineteen and try to make the pass for the lead, he would not be able to make this stick. With three laps to go Dixon would pull off the track with car troubles. Schrader would now be running in second and gaining on English.
Terry English would take a hard earned checkered flag, after battling off a hard charging Ed Dixon and Kenny Schrader for the win.
