I remember when they had trouble getting the engines to turn much over 7000 RPMs. Now they are turning nearly 9000. How do they turn that kind of RPM with no air? Plus...how fast would they be running with 900 HP unrestricted engines? I'm gonna say 240 would be easy. Until they took flight and went over the fence.

They didn't have trouble back in the day. They were over 8 thou 30 years ago. Gear ratio's. Gear ratios are figured to fall into the engines sweet spot for the different tracks. Technology over the years allows them to be dependable and make maximum power at higher RPM's
