Pocono RACE thread --- Rd. 2

Welp, two days, two trips to the track and back, 600 miles and feelin' a bit road weary but still worth it. The fog was other-worldly over there, I was waiting for werewolves to come out of the woods. I loved seeing a back marker team win it. Absolutely great. Rained like the end of the world on the way home. Yesterday was just, well, bad. But I got rained out in June and threw tickets away and there was no way that was happening this time. Race proved yet again that something can always happen that you have never seen, nor will ever again.

You're what being a race fan is all about. Can't let the bad experiences out-weigh the good.

Yeah it's nucking futs.

The rookie class is deep.

This is just adding more fuel to the fire of getting Buescher to Roush. Something tells me Biffle is going to get the boot... As much as it will hurt, but maybe getting Buescher into the 16 will become a reality.

FRM is getting better, I swear. But yes I see Buescher moving up. It was the plan all along. He was just as, if not more impressive than Stenhouse in the 60. Jack hasn't forgotten that.

Stenhouse in 11 and 12 didn't have nearly the amount of competition that Buescher had. I really like Stenhouse, but honestly with Bayne improving like he is...

Give me Buescher, Bayne, and Cassill for Roush. As much as I love Biffle, I think it would best for him to be released and see if anyone would be willing to pick him up.

I love that line-up. Keep Stenhouse or throw Bubba Dub in a cup car too.

And bring Bob Osborne back into a RFR role

Great place to build a racetrack.

It's actually a great location. The Poconos draw in a ton of people from NYC and Philly. Auto Racing has always been huge in Eastern PA. NJ and NY have great history with modify racing (Pocono's Modify race was a crown jewel back in the day). These factors have made the track a destination for a lot of people for generations.

The reason the dates don't move is June, July and August are peak months in the Pocono Mountains for vacationers. The dates themselves are perfect for Pocono Raceway. The weather just has to cooperate.

Pocono has a cult like following. The place is different than every place on the circuit. It has never been corporate in any sense of the word. It takes about 3 second of seeing it from 115 to realize you're not at a SMI or ISC track. But that's not a bad thing imo. The track and facility have improved tremendously since Doc passed. His stubbornness started to hold the track back safety wise the last few years. The new ownership crew has done an awesome job updating the Long Pond Straight and Short Chute. The track looks much different than it did 4-5 years ago.

I remember years ago (15+) rumors were swirling about Pocono losing a date. NASCAR basically said it would never happen unless a track in NYC was built. At that time Bruton Smith made at least one legit offer to buy it. Doc refused to sell. He made the right call. The NYC track idea fell apart and Pocono was forever safe. Compared to a lot of tracks, Pocono seems to fairing quite well attendance wise. MRN (state police) reported 100k (including infield) yesterday...

I almost have my wife talked into taking our vacation in the Poconos in June next year, starting race week. I've got a few months to work on her.

Interesting, Kurt and Kyle started the race 15th/16th, and finished the race 9th/10th
