Well, it's that time of the year again. Looks like MWR is in negotiations with Red Bull Racing to purchase their owners points. Seems that MWR wants to start a third car @ Daytona this year. Read here.

What do you think about being able to buy owners points?

Honestly , how Nascar sorts out the back of the field is pretty much a non issue for me. How they sort out the front of the field and guarantee that the top drivers make the race is really important to me . I don't want to see any of the top twenty-five drivers miss a race because of a mechanical failure during qualifying . I don't care if it's Jeff Gordon, Jeff Burton or whoever , when I pay to see a race , I expect to see all of the big names there. How the back markers get in .., by points ,qualifying , or whatever ,so be it .

Points are the only asset they have. I say sell em if you want to.

It's not like it's an NBA franchise over there.

There you go. It's better than what start and parks do. A top 35 team puts the biggest payday of their year in jeopardy by selling their points.

Do whatever is within the rules. I am fine with that.

I just hate the rule that says a driver or team can buy points they never earned. It's like the idiotic Cap and Trade legislation that's floating around this Country.

It makes ZERO sense!

Spending $10,000 on a diamond ring to earn the honor of financially supporting someone for the rest of their lives doesn't make sense either, but there's a lot of that crazy behavior floating around too. ;)

Times 88. Points should not be sold or traded or given away or a Gubmint subsidy or any other BS.

Perfect example. If I win the lottery big time should I be able to buy a team and get their points and qualify for the Daytona 500, even though I've never driven in a NASCAR race?

Geez. Isn't Boywer being punished enough by riding around in a MWR Toyota? Oh, that's right. He willingly signed the contract.

Check out RK Motors. Rob Kaufman will be moving his huge vintage muscle car restoration and sales business into the Red Bull building while MWR gets the cars, equipment and 7 post shaker.

Still say you should have to quilf your way in. And just the two highest point drivers get in. So if Jr wipes out before posting a lap and he's 12th in points. And Tony and Jimmie do the sane and they are higher in points. To bad so sad The 88 is not racing.

And Nascar would be out of business in no time.

Sponsors would pull out if they weren't guaranteed a spot in the show.Good bye Nascar .

wonder how nascar attracted sponsors and fans before the infamous top 35 guaranteed spots? sponsors would stay and so would the fans. saying they would leave is bs imo.

No way. Nascar instituted the top 35 because they had to . Even before that , the track owners paid 'appearance fees' to the popular drivers to ensure fan attendence. Sponsors maybe weren't that big a deal when a couple thousand bucks would put a car on the track, but they are necessary now that it takes a couple million. Even the TV networks have to be guaranteed that the top cars will be there to get the race telecast.

I agree. I think the way it was done before the top-35 rule was put in play is lost on most of today's fans. Provisional's were earned by drivers and there was little danger of a top team making the show. No need for me to explain how the provisional's worked as it is easily looked up.

At the very least I'd like to see them drop the top 35 rule down to the top 20 or so. Make qualifying for the race important again. No it's nothing more than arranging day.

I've only been following racing since the late 70s, but from reading and talking to friends; Almost every race series has always had some form of promoters/track option to make sure the "name" drivers are out there racing.
