Here's the latest from what I read this morning. Bruton Smith is really pizzed at France for suggesting that he switch his dates to get another one at Texas. The talk from Bill France was unscheduled and took many NASCAR officials by surprise. France was seated in the audience and began talking trying to explain what was going on. As such, it was an impromptu speach and as I said, caught a lot of people off guard. It's his image of what can happen in the future. He didn't say that the switching of races was mandatory and that if a track didn't want to switch, it didn't have to. However, remember, he (France) is in control of both Darlington and Rockingham so those tracks wouldn't have any problems switching/losing a date. Anyway, back to Bruton, he has some ideas that he thinks would help not only himself, but NASCAR as well. He'd love to have the season end at Las Vegas because the Homestead track is so boring and is the pits, in his words. He also thinks that switching the July Daytona race to the end of the season would be a good plan, though he says the owners would surely hate that...ending the season on a plate race. One thing Smitty agrees on is letting the networks in on the deal. He feels that his markets are much better than many of the ISC markets and would get a better deal from the networks. Four tracks Bruton thinks are not worthy of more dates are Chicago, Kansas City, Darlington and Rockingham. He has nothing to do with any of those tracks, but said that if they wanted to sell any of them, he'd be right there!
