Postrace inspection

Maybe my mind is failing me but do you have a link to that story about the #48 failing inspection and not being penalized last year?

lol...Nice try...YOU know as well as anyone NASCAR turned their head....If anyone doesn't it's pretty sad.

The crew chief says it was 1/16 of an inch low in the left front . The front left fender was damaged so he thinks that might be the cause, but they won't know until they get a closer look at it. The whole story is on nascar.com. Was Kyle cheating--- I doubt it. Things like this will just make their team work harder and make their 1st championship feel that much better.:D

Wonder if they measured it after it cooled down....

I know your stance is the same as it was last year. I like your game, but i'm done....I'm 11 1/2 and can use the forum search function. I'm sure you can too

I have to admit, you're losing me on this one. I simply wanted to know what you're referring to with the non-penalty on the #48? The last that I see that they failed inspection was in 07' and they were fined points, money, & Chad Kanus was suspended. You seemed like you were referring to something in particular.

If Kyle Busch is penalized, and he probably will, he will be the first one penalized under the new points system. If NASCAR stays at least somewhat consistent, and penalizes him the equivalent of what would have been 100 points under the old system, he would lose a few positions in the standing, and that would be about it.

However, for those of you that seem to want his head on a platter, and him kicked off the track, any standard penalty he might receive won't be enough.

In this case, more than any case in recent memory of a team getting penalized for something so relatively close, some people think heads should role, Busch should have his third place finish taken away, yada yada yada. But face it, NASCAR doesn't take a way Cup wins, finishing positions or anything like that, and hasn't for years and years and years. But because it's Kyle Busch, they should suddenly start now?

Y'all seem to want consistency, but in this case....not so much. You want Busch's head on a platter.

I can't see him losing any more than 10 points, this is a minor infraction IMO.

Why not him losing points? Boyer did last year.
What was the infraction that Boyer lost points for? I was on tour all of last year and didn't keep up with nascar very much.

I believe he is referring to an incident last year or the year before where the 48 was warned that they were getting to close on the tolerances. Many thought that the car was indeed illegal but that NASCAR just warned them because it was the 48. Many also believe that Kyle put the lives of some deer in danger when he was doing 129 on a country road. Your mileage will probably vary.

There was also an issue of a drive shaft (I think) being confiscated last year with no penalty.

The problem is that it's all in NASCAR's discretion.

One guy could have a car too low and get a $25,000 fine, no points. Another driver could have the same thing and get a $150,000 fine and be penalized 150 points.

Seeing how NASCAR works on the local divisions, I've got to say this doesn't surprise me.

A points penalty is irrelevant because of the Chase and the new wild card rule... but VA's right, some people are going to say Kyle should be penalized 150 points and be stripped of five wins and others are going to say there should be no penalty for Kyle (it's Harvick's fault, amirite?).

Thanks for the link. That refreshed my memory. It wasn't a failed inspection; it was a cracked part that was removed and replaced. Hardly a comparison to what the #18's issue is.

That was the big one. It was stunning because every time someone's parts have been confiscated, pre-race or post-race, there's always been a penalty.

AND CONFISCATED
Sorry, I thought you were just screwing with me.

Crew Chief gets slapped for $25k...Driver gets 6 points deducted...Owner gets an additional 6 point deduction

6 Points...Brutal...LOL!!!

NASCAR has penalized the No. 18 team in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series as a result of rule infractions discovered during post-race inspection Sunday at Pocono Raceway.

The No. 18 car was found to be in violation of Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4-J (any determination by NASCAR officials that race equipment used in the event does not conform to NASCAR rules); and 20-12.8.1B (body height requirements – car failed to meet the minimum front car heights) of the 2011 NASCAR rule book.

As a result, crew chief Dave Rogers has been fined $25,000, while owner Joe Gibbs and driver Kyle Busch have been penalized with the loss of six championship owner and six championship driver points, respectively.

STATEMENT FROM JGR: "We brought the #18 car back to our race shop and have identified the problem which caused us to measure low during the post-race inspection process in Pocono yesterday afternoon. We have made NASCAR aware of our findings and we accept the penalty they have issued today."(JGR)(6-13-2011)

So I'm guessing from that it wasn't a part failure or body damage.

This situation is just a noble attempt by the Gibbs crew to make up for Kryles shortcomings at Pocono........
Everyone has a bad track, and Pa. is one of his.

Troll, much? :growl:

The car passed pre race tech. Not the first time that a car "settled" during a race. It certainly wasn't intentional.

Jesus you guys need to lay off the Kyle bashing, the guy had a good race, finished third and this is his bad track? So his car was legal before the race started I'm sue his crew worked real hard during the race to make it illegal by the time it was done!:sarcasm: Unreal ....this has happened many times in post race inpection through out the years, no big deal in my opinion. I thought he would get 10 points deducted, which would be pretty much the equivalent of 100 points based on the old system, but they (nascar) must of deemed it a minor deal.

Yes, with the help of an illegal car...
Do you really think that 1/16 of an inch made that much of a differance in the way his car handled, or are you just stroking everyone?
