Practice

Watching practice right now and it looks like Saturday night all over again, way to go Nascar, you really fixed the "problem".:sarcasm:

Conspiracy of Jr winning out the window?

I don't know why the drivers didn't start doing this several years ago when the new car came out. I remember at both Daytona and Talladega that two cars that could hook up would really make some time. I was thinking at the time that I'd get a teammate and do that the whole race. I don't understand why it took until the '11 Daytona 500 to figure this out.

lol Mike Joy "I got your conspiracy theory right here":D

Ok so getting back to the changes they made(Nascar), how is this any better than Saturday night?

Ugh, the smaller plate is making the Noah's Ark racing MORE effective!

This smaller plate is making it worse, it is making the closing rate for the 2 car drafting even quicker, which equates to less reaction time. Like I stated before ....once again Nascar pulls a bonehead move in changing something. Not only did they not fix the problem they made it even more dangerous!

Yep.

This form of racing is pure garbage. NASCAR made it worse, but the drivers are the ones to blame for the actual product we're seeing. They've been working on this Noah's Ark crap for months, trying to make it MORE effective.

They don't have a choice, they have to try to go as fast as they can, drafting like this is the fastest way around. I'm actually dreading the 500 if this crap continues.

What really sucks about this form of racing is that a driver may have the best car out there, but if he doesn't partner up with the right driver, then his best car isn't going to do much for him. Which is unfair to that driver.

No bump drafting period should be the rule. NA$CAR thinks this is great till someone gets killed or so messed up they can't race anymore.

For those of us without access to television, how did Jr's wreck happen?

He was drafting JJ and they came up on Robby Gordon and I think Kavipl. Those 2 came up the track JJ check up and got sideways JR checked up. Problem was Truex was right behind being pushed by Vickers Vickers didn't see them check up and pushed Truex into Jr. The both spun then Jr hitting the drivers side on the inside wall before the pits. Both to back ups

Thanks for the update.

Nationwide now with that stupid ugly splitter.

For those of us without access to television, how did Jr's wreck happen?

Earnhardt Jr. wrecks in practice, goes to backup car: during the rain delayed 1st practice on Wednesday, #48-Johnson and #88-Earnhardt Jr. were drafting in a two car pack, just behind them was another 2 car pack, #56-Truex Jr and #83-Vickers. #48-Johnson lifted as he came up on a slower pack of cars, Earnhardt got into Johnson, who got loose but recovered, Truex had no place to go and got into Earnhardt, sending both the #88 and #56 sliding thru the grass with the #88 hitting the inside SAFER wall, bouncing off and back into Truex. So both are going to backup cars. Since Earnhardt Jr.'s starting spot was locked in, he will have to go to the rear of the field before the start of Gatorade Duel 1 and the Daytona 500. Truex Jr. will start at the rear of the Gatorade Duel but starting where he qualifies with his Gatorade Duel result. Whichever driver starts 3rd in the Daytona 500 [to be determined in the Gatorade Duels] will start first in the Daytona 500.(2-16-2010

Plate racing is a crap shoot. It has nothing to do with having the best equipment or driving ability.
Need proof? Michael Waltrip won 4 plate races.

You do know that the new Sprint Cup splitter bottom piece is the same one as the old one.Just cut down a little and molded to the car differently.

So what your saying is it's just like it but different. I know that, but as part of the body it's part of the ground effects and looks a hole lot better than the fugly splitter.

Really wish nascar would stop dicking around with the plates on the nationwide cars.
They've effectively destroyed the cup cars performance, and now they gotta dog the nationwide cars down so they're slower than the cup cars.
They're turning this whole week into a sh*t sandwich.:bleh:
On a sidenote, it's nice to see Annette is sober enough to show up and practice....:sarcasm:

I may as well just go ice fishing this weekend.

I'll watch the Duels today when I get home from the gym, but as far as racing this weekend, it looks like the Trucks will be the only division with REAL racing unless Nascar screws with them too. I looked at the practice speeds for Nationwide, apparently they were doing the 2 car draft crap too....202mph...wtf? Never seen Nationwide cars go that fast at Daytona, so I assume they will be getting a smaller plate also. To say I'm dissapointed that at the start of the season this crap takes place is an understatement, Nascar isn't doing their product any good starting out like this. Unless of course this added controversey brings in a few viewers, but I actually think this will turn off a lot of people to this style of racing....IMO....lol!

Blame the drivers as well, they have spent months working on two car drafts in testing and practice. Mark Martin gave a good interview about it yesterday. Basically, this is the product we're stuck with at plate tracks unless NASCAR pulls the plates off. :(

Outside of this forum, most of the opinions that I've heard were favorable for the new form of drafting. I liked the Bud Shootout and thought that added a whole new element to the race. I'll be curious to see how it plays out over the 500 miles on Sunday. It may completely suck or it could end up being one of the best races @ Daytona that we've seen in a while. The racing @ Talladega and Daytona have transitioned into this probably more because of the added grip than anything. That will change over time but not quickly. NASCAR will have to come up with a solution but that isn't going to happen over Speedweeks. That too, will take time.

The only thing that would make the racing interesting is if one car is able to pass another car, without worrying about having a buddy to help him.
Thats not even close to happening.
Just a couple years ago, a single car could get a run, and get around a car or 2, but not anymore.

Simple solution to this stupid 2 car bump drafting, change the configuration of the front fascia. Make a Ford look like a Ford, a Dodge look like a Dodge...ect,that way the front ends won't match up with the rear of all the cars. It will change the aero, and then we can increase the plate sizes to where they can sling shot around each other. That way maybe we will have some simblance of racing, not this stuff that is totally ridiculous. Despite what other people on other forums say, this is not racing, and it is also very dangerous when you have a 2 car draft closing in on cars that are going 10-12 mph slower, as was evidenced by Jr and Truexs' wreck yesterday.

Exactly!:beerbang:

NASCAR has been "fixing" this Daytona/Talladega thing for a while now and all they've really accomplished is to screw it up even better. I expect to see a weekend crashfest. Last man standing will be the next Daytona 500 winner.

Yep i agree, and since when do they run the Duels at 2pm ???

This forum is the only place I've seen the negativity about it, other forums most people like it, heck a lot of people here like it.

If you are a true racer or a person that has been around the sport like I have for 45 years, you quickly realize that what is being presented at Daytona this year is not racing. New fans, young people who haven't the years behind them watching racing just don't get it.

I've seen negative thoughts on other forums as well as a ton on Nascar.com

I have also seen negative comments on other boards but IMO this board has more negativity towards the sport than the others.

Or is it old fans can't evolve to enjoy what racing has become. Truly its your problem not mine.

I've been watching for 35+ years. I like the 2 car drafting better than the whole pack drafting. Whats more interesting, 2 car packs passing or half the cars in one line and the other half in another line riding? It's never been about racing at Daytona, ever since I've been watching it's always about the drafting. At least now 2 cars can hook up and pass, it doesn't take half the cars to get a line to move. This is as close to 1 car being able to pass cars as we'll get.:(
