Or is it old fans can't evolve to enjoy what racing has become. Truly its your problem not mine.

The sport has evolved into a joke on the plate tracks, but if you like it fine, that is your perogative. Train racing is usually reserved for the short tracks on a Saturday night, a division that essentially is the equivalent of a circus. What Nascar has done has not fixed the problem, but instead made a mockery out of Daytona. They fix the track, it is so smooth it is awesome, yet they can't fix a simple probelm with the cars. Since 1987 (24years of plate racing) it has been an abortion, which has manifested it self into what we have today. My father would be rolling on the floor right now laughing if he were alive. I don't know, I guess I expected so much more this year with the new surface. I'm just really dissapointed at what has gone down so far, and what I don't understand is why can't the Trucks or the Nationwide guys go faster than the Cup cars. Is that another pencilled in rule in the "magic rule book"???

I've been watching for 35+ years. I like the 2 car drafting better than the whole pack drafting. Whats more interesting, 2 car packs passing or half the cars in one line and the other half in another line riding? It's never been about racing at Daytona, ever since I've been watching it's always about the drafting. At least now 2 cars can hook up and pass, it doesn't take half the cars to get a line to move. This is as close to 1 car being able to pass cars as we'll get.:(

The pack style racing wasn't racing either, 3 wide 30 cars deep for 150 miles is ridiculous. The lack of throttle response is why they can not pass, which equates to a plate being too small, choking off the engine of horsepower. They just reduced the trucks' horespower too, which means they will have less throttle response. The purpose of drafting was to be able to come up on your opponent and be able to sling shot around him, not have to push him around to get past the other competitiors. If you watch races from the 70s and 60s, you will see 4 and 5 car drafts, you will see them sling shooting around each other. True horse power and sleek aero won those races, not the luck of surviving the big crash that takes out 20 good cars. I understand some people thinking this is exciting, the slicing and dicing that happened in the Shootout. What happens when 2 cars come up on some slower cars and can't react quick enough? Same result after trying to fix something the wrong way.....there will be a "big one or maybe two". It will wipe out a lot of good cars and cost teams a lot of money.

And for the most part we would be right.

In YOUR opinion others of us watch an old race and see how much that sucks. At least I do if I watch a race on ESPN classic I'm bored to death. So do all of us real fans a favor and stop telling us what we like sucks.

Real fan huh....ok, kid think what you want, like what you want, I'm sure and hell not going to tell you what do. Just saying if you were my age, you wouldn't consider this real racing. More power to you if you can actually get enjoyment out of watching this.:beerbang:

I keep reading this but what age is that? I've been watching this sport a long, long time as well. Perhaps not as long as you but well before the advent of restrictor plate racing. We all like something different. I don't have a problem with the racing that I'm watching so don't speak for all of us at an advanced age.

Ok...so sorry if you like it great! I'll be 50 in 2 months, been watching this since 1967 on Wide World of Sports. I've been around racing since i was 4, my dad was involved with it to an extent and i used to hang out at the garages when I was a kid. So I guess i just got spoiled, the modifieds were my thing and still are, but really when Bill was in his hey day battling Earnhardt, that is when I started to really be a huge fan of Cup. After Nascar exploded, became too big for itself, they have tried all kinds of gimmicks to improve the racing. To me this is a gimmick, but to some of you it is cool, I get that, and I'm sorry if i offended anyone with my comments. :beerbang:

+1

I have been around racing since 1960 and I enjoyed the racing today.

'Handsome Harry' @ practice today. Haven't seen him in a while. Looks like he could jump back into that Skoal Bandit and turn some laps.

I saw him in Vegas a few years back signing autographs at his trailer, nice guy, very personable and like you said still looks like he could drive that 33.
