Race pics and experiences

Cota was fun. Started off cool which was perfect but then the sun came out and it got hot. The way the sun sets it’s in your face in the paddock club.

Hey all, random question...

Looks like a strong probability im going to miss the cup race at Pocono this year, but no worries ill go to the Truck-Xfinity double header on Saturday. Are all the merch trucks typically open during the Trucks and Xfinity races?

Yes

Public Service Announcement......When the forecast for Sonoma is 70 degrees....it is the coldest 70 degrees on the planet. It was very chilly.

A friend sent me some pics from his daughter in Chicago. Here are some I think I can share.

Michael Johnson. Engine Tuner. Badass. I love the way tuners move about....It's like...."You can set this thing up any way you want, but if it doesn't go, you are screwed." So cool.

Phoenix is done right. Access. I love the place. I get to see the business end of my sport. What I love the most is that the Hot Pass crowd only gets to see the ass end of these things. An infield pass gets you into engine bays. Damn it....I love this sport.

WARNING: THIS IS NOT A TROLLL POST.....Wanted to share some positive stuff about Hendrick.....

1. Cliff Daniels is a class act. Constantly in the garage, and great with the fans. Multiple team meetings....he is in charge. I was impressed.
2. Chad Knaus is an awesome person. Always smiling at fans, and attending to the details...shining this, rubbing that. I have seen him on three different occasions, in three different places. Each time, he had a kind word and a smile for me. Nobody can fake it that well.

I agree about Chad. I met him once at AMS. He was in the middle of setting up the 48 but was still smiling and kind for us fans.

Rick Hendrick's yacht was in town. I arrived around 2 and walked around the garages before the drivers meeting. When the meeting was about to star I met Michael Rooker and saw the rock. Most of the drivers had their game face on and didn't really chat. I was surprised by how great the crowd was. It didn't hurt that if you had a xfinity ticket you could also attend the 500.

Day 1 at COTA - Zero road traffic. Parked in lot T, walked to turn 1 entry. Then walked around the track clockwise, getting a tram ride from halfway down the back straight around to turn 3. The turn9 grandstand has been disassembled and the esses viewing area is no longer accessible (sad).

All the equipment is branded for TMS. It's very obvious that SMI is leasing the property. Talking to facility staff, concessions and security are local folks but anybody related to operations and logistics are from Fort Worth or Denton.
And they DO NOT cross communicate very well at all.

The little carnival is neat. No idea what it cost; the ferris wheel is 1 ticket, roller coaster is 2. Vendor midway was dominated by Toyota.

Overall today was right at 10,000 steps. Had dinner at a hole in the wall Peruvian place by the hotel here in Round Rock. About 40 minutes both ways today, and it's the closest non-price-gouging hotel. $102/night with IHG rewards membership.
