Racing thaw about to begin.

The NASCAR crew joining IndyCar and sports car drivers for the marathon run that starts Saturday afternoon includes: former 24-hour winner Juan Pablo Montoya and NASCAR teammate Jamie McMurray, who will be along for the ride with Earnhardt Ganassi Racing; A.J. Allmendinger, with the Michael Shank Racing team; and two-time Daytona 500 champion Michael Waltrip, who asked Clint Boyer to join him.http://articles.orlandosentinel.com...125_1_clint-bowyer-memo-rojas-brad-keselowski

Should be good. Probably the strongest field there's ever been for this race.

You're not going out on any limbs if you're taking one of the BMWs for the overall win, but I'll be watching the Starworks team of Bourdais, McNish, Dalziel, and Popow. I also want to see how Speedsource does in the new GX class, with the Skyactiv Mazdas (those cars look real sharp, I'll give them that).

Also, anyone on Twitter may want to follow @johndagys, who takes some of the best motorsports pictures you'll ever see.

Thanks. Haven't the Fords dominated lately?

Not really. They've won some (including last year's 24), but last year was mostly about the Corvette DP. As far as championships go, Ganassi BMWs have won the last 3.

After the offseason rule tweaks, there's a lot of buzz this year that the BMWs are a little more "equal" than the rest. Of course, I've yet to see a season go by in any for of racing where no one thought that.

Boy, that new diesel class is really having some growing pains. Six started, and three are gone in the first couple of hours.

Blasted Ganassi cars are up front again.

There used to be more drivers from NASCAR involved. I think the series has declined over the last few years. It should be more interesting next year when the merger with AMLS happens.
bigtimme,,,sux since they left.
GO VETTE'S!

I've been watching off-and-on since the green flag dropped.

Mostly boring, but it's racing. :)

I love road racing and I love endurance racing so I don't find this style of racing to be the least bit boring.
But that's all a matter of taste.
Some people's taste is all in their mouth, I suppose...

;)

I'd still like to see the Cup cars run this course. I don't see any reason why they couldn't. Don't bother with the safer barrier comments. They race Watkins Glen and Sonoma without them.

There's no reason they can't, but RP fans would have a fit if they lost a RP race for that.

Not all. I'm a restrictor plate racing fan but I sure wouldn't mind them swapping out the current July race configuration for the road course version.

I agree. I wish they would put a temporary chicane at the exit of turn 4 on most 1.5 and 2 mile snoretracks that have 2 dates. That would mean no more perfect setups to roll thru 4 corners and more driving.

I've said the same before. I think that would generate some better racing at those tracks.

It would change everything and be very exciting. My concern would be that we'd end up with 20 cautions per race as everyone tried to out brake one another getting into the chicane.

They handle it OK at the road courses. I would widen the alternate path to allow 3 and 4 wide coming to the line, and watch them figure the mess out entering turn 1. It could make for some awesome 4 wide finishes though.

Actually there is a huge difference. Especially after a restart where they are stacked up 3 wide.

Got you covered.

They've now turned 600 laps, 1500 miles.

Starworks is going to give McNish one more stint, and finish with Dalziel. It's ultimately going to be between them and the 01 if you ask me.

Wayne Taylor is not too fond of Ganassi, and he's making it clear. Love it.
