Rate Talladega 2

Listened to this ****show on the radio. The Chase drivers all dropped to the back of the pack in the final sprint and rode around in the back for the conclusion of the race.

I'd rather them run 36 races at boring ass mile and a half cookie cutter tracks than have this ****show in the Chase.

ESPN wasn't the only ones waiting for a Big One. MRN spent the whole race promoting "The Big One". Why? Because it's the only reason millions of people watch the Talladega ****shows.

I rather like being able see the whole pack on the tv screen for the whole race. Beats watching one car out front by 5 seconds with the "clean air advantage"

Restrictor plate racing is like the action movie that's non-stop fighting and shooting with absolutely no plot. You watch for hours and the next thing you see is "Directed by".

Great analogy!

Both keep you on the edge of your seat and provide several hours of nonstop entertainment.

More times than not, I find it boring - much like the non-stop action movies... especially since restrictor plate racing is usually boring. Sounded like this race, they raced for the first 180 laps and rode around for the final eight laps which is the exact opposite of what they normally do LOL. The finishes for these races - especially since they seem to finish under yellow more times than not, it's like that action movie where you've had two hours of non-stop action and it ends with some sidekick character taking out the antagonist right when the antagonist and protagonist are deadlocked in epic duel.

Not my cup of tea. I don't like the mile and a half tracks but I'll take those over Talladega any day. They might be boring most of the time but at least there are plot points in most of them and more than not, the drama is actual drama not manufactured. Restrictor plate races are the WWE of NASCAR.

And Jamie McMurray winning another plate race? Yawn.

Well, on to Martinsville or, as I like to call it, the only race in the Chase.

At least that's actual racing. That's the thing that bothers me most about plate racing - no matter how good the car, strategy, pit crew, and driver are the most you can get ahead of 2nd is a few feet because everyone's running around on 450 HP or whatever it is. It's entertaining but I think that it's a form of entertainment best reserved for exhibition races. I can't get behind putting championship points on these races. Like I said earlier, my heart enjoys it but my head does not. I hope that makes some sort of sense.

It makes perfect sense to me but I still enjoy an occasional RP race. Talladega worked out good for my driver, he picked up about 20 points on the leaders.
Could have went the other way too though.
A few hundred less horsepower might make all the Cup races better IMO

I like strategy racing. It's part of the sport - part of any sport. In football, it's clock management. In baseball, it's pitching strategy. In basketball, you have a shot clock that forces you to make your move. In NASCAR, it used to be fuel and tires. But Goodyear took strategy right out of the sport a long time ago... and any time there is a series of events in a race that puts everyone on different pit cycles and different strategies, NASCAR throws a mystery debris caution that takes that element right out of the race.

I'd really like to see NASCAR go to a tire rule for Cup like Nationwide, Trucks, ARCA, IndyCar (to a different extent) and damn near every race track/series in the country.

The one thing I liked about tandem racing is that there was strategy in it and it turned the plate races in to a chess game. Sports are supposed to be as mental as they are physical. Restrictor plate racing is like WWE. And it gets huge ratings because millions of non-fans who watched Talladega Nights tune in waiting to see the big wreck. It's not racing.

When fuel mileage races became the norm Nascar put a stop to that crap with the phantom cautions. its unfortunate that most other strategies are also interrupted by the frequent cautions. Racing at half speed did little to impress me. Seems that most of the fans want to see a race to the finish.

Limiting the number of tires just doesnt seem to help most of the time and even hurts the smaller teams

It was getting ridiculous for a while. But part of the problem with that, again, is that the tires were so good that they didn't give off a whole lot and you could run a full stint "wide open". Races like Rockingham and Darlington (before the repave and Goodyear's rock hard tires) were fun because you had drivers who'd rocket right to the lead at the start of a stint and drivers who would surge towards the front at the end of a stint because they were saving their tires.

Some crappy tires would liven things up a bit :D

I was there.

For the most part it was a 8-9, good side by side racing, but the last 8 laps or so were a 5, single file and boring.

But at least i went to a NASCAR race this year and it did not rain, so that's a 10!

It's around a 5.5 hour drive, I did not leave till 7pm Saturday night, got to the track and found a ticket booth, bought a ticket and went in a Campground and got a little sleep. Thank God for sunglasses and ear plugs! haha

Was at Dega in the spring and it rained, then Kentucky a few weeks later and it rained, this was my first trip to Alabama that it did not rain i do believe.
