Rate The Cup Race: Atlanta

It was rather clear that Harvick had this one in the bag since the drop of the green flag. He drove very well and is deserving of the victory, but the fact that there was not just a little bit more of a straight fight between him and someone else disappointed me.

On a positive note, it is nice to get a clearer glimpse of who we made need to be watching out for this year.

While I do not like Harvick, he earned some of my respect today. :)
The ending and post race celebration gets a 10 + 4 + 3 from me. :D

9.25, and that includes deductions for Harvick's speed advantage in the third stage (one of my least favorite drivers). He does deserve props for his performance today nonetheless. A great race on a fantastic track... wide multi-groove racing on worn out, tire eating pavement. Very high degree of difficulty, so this race rewarded driver skills and team skills. Tons of side-by-side racing, including at the front in the first two stages. Interesting strategy plays going on.

If we had another car or two who could match Harvick's speed at the end, this would have been a "perfect 10" type of race. And excellent TV coverage as well. That scoring ticker was very helpful... surely it converted many naysayers today, I predict.

Pave the damn thing. I give it a 6, 100 miles too long and some serious separation at times. Good hard racing towards the end tho

Atlanta is Harvick's track - I was not aware that it was his first big win. I thought it was a drivers track with the tire wear but everyone but Harvick had to rely on strategy to compete. I got a kick out of the different strategies going on. Looking at the top 10 finishers, the veterans showed the young guns how to run a seasoned track.

I will go with 8 too...makes me not look forward to the recently repaved Texas in a few weeks though :(

8. Good racing and strategy. Lot of action around the track. I wish they would show positions of back markers more often but other than simple complain it was a good race.

Love the old surface, and the multiple grooves it provides. One of the few tracks on the schedule where tire falloff occurs and the cars slip and slide around.

Have to knock it down a point because Harvick stunk up the show. Had a 12 second lead at one point.

8...here is to hoping NASCAR wI'll be consistent with cautions this year and the networks can step up there game.

10. The perfect race (except that a Toyota didn't win). I love a blow out. Harvick dominated. Comers and goers. It doesn't get better----um, unless a Toyota wins. ;)
