RATE THE RACE: Bristol Night Race

8.5- Good racing throughout the night. The part that surprised me the most was the pit strategies.

9, be a 10 but Kasey seems to be seeing how many things he can hit while running up front again.

I think Watkins Glenn and Martinsville were better races. Note: I realize Martinsville left a bad taste for many because of the late caution but Gordons late race stalking and setting up Johnson still was classic stuff

I say Watkins Glen and Martinsville were close, and had more exciting finishes (though it never should have ended that way at Martinsville), but this race still gets the edge for best overall race IMO.

Was a 10 till number 78 crashed Danica after she worked hard to stay in the top 20 and on the lead lap.

Bristol is back, well sort of. It reminded me of Bristol before the concrete. Drivers always floated their cars up toward the top of the track, and there was always a lot of beating and bamging like last night. Glad Bruton made the change.

10+

That right there is something I would do. ;)

I distinctly remember seeing cars run side by side and at one point 3 wide off turn four and down the straight, did the TV coverage not show any of that?

I'd give the event a 10 but the actual racing a 5 at best. At the same time it is fun to see the driver's tempers again after tangling @ the track. Maybe some of this can carry over to the remaining events?

Some teams fell into a trap by setting up for the old low groove, but the middle groove is too fast since the banking arrived. That hasn't changed one bit.

After everyone watches the tape of Kasey running and passing up top, that's where the racing will be and they will have to bump slower cars to the inside of the track. Overall, I think the tires and track confusion made for a good night of racing.

When I heard people say the old Bristol was back, they were right. The days of asphalt when they'd run at the top was back. We'll see if that's a one-time deal or the norm.
