RATE THE RACE: Dover

Is it 4pm yet? This race is snoozy.
Thank God for unlimited NFL on DirecTV. This race sucks.
NASCAR had a sniper on the roof shoot the tire so the caution would come out before everyone flipped the channel.
Hey look, a race broke out.
Never mind -- false alarm.
This caution presented by NOS Energy Drink, because it was thrown to wake the fans up.

So all this, and now the race is a 10.

I give it a 10. Don't care much for Kez but it's great to see just 2 Dodges in the field and 1 of them is kicking but.

I give it a five. The guy that was leading the race had to back off because the points structure is to even at the top.

BORING.

I enjoyed watching the race. Definitely not a 10 but the most memorable of the 3 Chase races to date. It was cool to see the Kyle of old there for a while during that race. I actually found myself rooting for the guy a little. A very little.
The caution catching so many drivers a lap or more down played a huge factor in this race. I was watching my guy try to get back onto the lead lap for the majority of the race and got to see some aggressive moves on his part. That was cool. These fuel millage races don't bother me so much. I think it adds more excitement to the end. I can't imagine how tough that was for Johnson to try to stretch out that fuel run. That has to go against everything that these guys are made of to slow down to bring it home. I thought it was great to see Keselowski take another on fuel like that. That is playing head games with the competition, big time. Overall I liked it.

Solid 9, lots of shuffling around and jockying for position all through the ranks. Besides Bad Brad won and I dont want to get poked in the eyes by FB.

I wish nascar would do something about this. I've tried to imagine why the rule isn't if you clear the commit line before the yellow comes out, go ahead and pit and you're all good to go. Even if you're unlucky, it would be just 1 lap after the wave around. Jr lost track position getting to his box, then he couldn't pit because they were closed. That's retarded.

Wow, can't believe some of the ratings. I gave it a 2. When basically 8 cars are the only ones with a shot to win the race for 340 of the 400 laps and only 11 lead changes with only two being on the track, that's not much of a race. I know the circumstances made it difficult with so many drivers getting caught a lap or more down.

I don't have a problem with the rule the way it is. He got lapped attempting to make a pit stop. Crap happens. It's all part of the game. What goes around comes around and everyone will experience it sooner or later.

Not much you can do with electronic scoring and caution laps counting. It does suck to see a driver's day ruined by it though. Everytime Jeff pits under green I get nervous.

I don't have a problem with that, but that isn't the whole story. He TRIED to make a pit stop, but couldn't after the yellow came out. So he lost a lap for nothing. Then he can't pit with the leaders, and he takes another hit by being backed up in the mess. I don't understand why he couldn't finish that stop when the yellow came out. Then, he's still a lap down, but can take the wave around and end up at the tail end.

I think I'm understanding what happened. If not, please explain. Racing is a bit of russian roulette, but when the rules exacerbate the risks, I have a problem with it.

I hear ya. What happened yesterday certainly isn't the norm but that's part of the uncertainty of it all. My driver got caught, yours didn't. Next time, you may not be so lucky.

Watching the timing and scoring online he got lapped while driving through the pit area. He didn't get out in front of the leader. That put him a lap down. He couldn't pit when the pit opened because he was a lap down and had to wait until the lap down cars pitted.

Ok, so I got it right. He was almost in his box when he was waved back out because of the yellow. What is the rule? If you're in your box when the yellow waves, you can pit?

Correct, he was coming in to pit and was on pit lane when the caution came out. He was told to continue back out on the track when the caution waved but he was unable to keep on the lead lap. In hindsight, he probably should have sped and simply taken the penalty.

I don't remember the rule but I will look it up. It would be easier if they would just publish the rulebook but I digress. That's for another thread.

I thought it used to be the yellow light at the entrance. Beat that when crossing the commit line, and you're good to complete your pit. It seems that the rule changed. Possibly because some guys got lucky wins that way. IMO, what happened yesterday is far worse. It worked out for Kez, but it did ruin the racing.

Here is what I found. Not sure if this has been updated recently. Source Jayski. The following was listed under the Truck Series so I don't know if it translates or not.

If a car is entering pit road or just entered pit road when the caution comes out (thus closing pit road), the driver can go down pit road (without stopping in his stall) while maintaining pit road speed and NASCAR will put the driver back in his spot when he entered pit road. There have been times guys entered pit road just as it closed because of a caution and never had a chance to react and all but had their day (or a good part of it) ruined with losing a lap.

If this is true, I need to go back and watch that section of the race again. I though he was on pit road when the caution came out.

thanks. It looks like his CC messed up by waving him out, or Jr messed up by not maintaining pit speed and stopping in his stall. My money is on Jr missing the call.
