Rate the Race --- Dover

7. Nothing great but nothing bad either. JJ+Chad+the 48 team=Fantastic.

I'd call it a 7, as there was strong racing throughout. Overtime was put in so folks wouldn't gripe about a late caution that made for a yawner finish. I'm OK with the "final" line as it has to exist to escape what we used to have...multiple overtimes and restarts. There is no perfect deal.

Junior and Ives cannot get on the same page. Clear as it can be. They now use JJ's setup and that's gone after the first pit stop.

Larson and Truex had some good close racing - they had their cars set up right. Tire management was a factor. It is always tough to see someone who should have won the race loose it on a late restart, but that is the way it is (I was often disappointed with races ending under caution in the past when there was close competition).

My rating 8.0.

I love Dover races, and this was an excellent one for 397 laps, with a lot of side-by-side racing. It is hard to pass at Dover, but it is possible *if* you are faster and execute well. I like it that way. Dover is tough and physical, and driving skill is rewarded. The low downforce aero rules have added to the appeal here, as well as most other tracks. The need to manage tires and manage traffic also add spice.

Didn't like the finish, but what are you going to do? The most fair way would be to finish under caution for the final three laps, but the fans seem to reject that. Unlimited G-W-C attempts has proven to be highly dangerous at some tracks, and prone to cheating by Harvick and maybe others, so that's why that rule got changed. Maybe use the "Delaware restart" in the final 10% of the race, where the leader is alone on the front row??

Disappointed to see "my driver" BKez taken out early for the second consecutive week by getting wrecked by others, but that does not affect my score for the race. It is just "one of them racing deals" but it still sucks.

Yes, it is tough to take sometimes, but it is part of the appeal of sports... you never know what will happen until it is over. I'll gladly take the rough with the smooth.

8. I wanted to see Larson win. He just got beat on the restart and that's part of racing. You have to have some kind of rule for the end of the race. However you do it you won't make everyone happy.

I would just as soon see things play out normally and end under caution but as long as gimmicks are being used often times someone will be the windshield and someone else will be the bug.

9 JJ saved his tires just in case there was a late race caution, he knew he couldnt catch the 42 and he had a big lead on the 3rd place car. (smart? lucky? or both?) YUP. I thought the 78 was gonna trounce both cars but he probably burned up his tires as well. Caution line or not, I believe JJ would have held them both off for the win. I guess if your a JJ fan the caution line was a great thing to see.

8.3 for the 8 beers I drank and the 3 ounce bag of popcorn I ate. Pretty good entertainment other than the disappointing ot line finish.

Solid 8.5

Didn't see FOX go through the field too much but the 42, 48, and 78 supplied much of the entertainment anyways.

I'd give it an 8, but the speedy-dry issue at the end was unfortunate - so it's a 7 for me. But the low-downforce package with those tires at Dover made for some great racing. Watching Larson, Jimmie, and Martin drive the wheels off was very entertaining.
