Rate The Race: Indianapolis

I didn't watch the race. There are few races I have watched this year.

That said, I will give it a 3 strictly because Gordon and Stewart were in the race. Without then it would have been a 0. :)
 
I still can't believe so many people think NASCAR is helping Toyota dominate. Where was all the hate for Chevy when Earnhardt and Gordon were dominating?

As for the Brickyard, Chevy won this race 12 years in a row before Kyle won it last year. We were calling it Impalapolis/IMSS there for awhile.

It was there then too. It will always be there in some form, at some target, from some sector. It's like when you go to the race and you know that at some point you're going to catch a whiff of port-a-potty. You just hope you're parked up wind.

Personally, I don't think NASCAR has anything to do with it. Toyota and JGR have done their homework and made things work. Plus, they have a
DRIVER in the seat using the equipment to the max.

Exactly. I can't stand any of the JGR drivers but in no way do I think they have an unfair advantage over the other teams. Drivers and teams have dominated races and seasons ever since this sport was created.

I faintly remember TDR took a year off and all their engines were underpowered and many
exploded on track. I think what when on during that year is the reason why they are so powerful now. They did their homework. Roush/Yates are gas savers at best. I think Penske has to bring those engines in house to make improvements. It is embarrassing that the Fords are the slowest.

'13, I think. I recall it was the year before Kenseth went to Gibbs, and I remember thinking the engine problems meant he was making a huge mistake. :rolleyes:

Just bad.

Not so much because of the ungodly ass whooping Kyle Busch laid down this weekend.

More so because the racing is just plain non existent at this track.

Honestly, the Penske gamble and ensuing wreck fest at the end was the only thing that shook it up.

Otherwise you knew Busch had this thing locked up from the drop of the green.
 
I wonder how much money it will cost Gibbs to bribe that twin turbo V8 Toyota past the post race inspection crew :huh:

I agree. I can't stand any of Gibbs Cup driver, for various reasons, honestly, except for Hamlin, I despised them before they were with Gibbs. That being said, what they're doing right now is mind boggling. They've hit on something the others haven't yet. The other teams will catch up.
 
I was totally impressed with Kyle's historic weekend (I caught both races). I was pretty nervous with all the late cautions, I thought someone might steal an impressive run (it was like a bottom of the 9th no hitter going on). Passing was hard at Indy but there was passing going on though out the field. Green flag racing has it's own character and this time Kyle had his car dialed in way better than anyone else.

I got a little misty hearing Tony read letters in the prerace show (Robin Miller's was the best). I also got a little misty seeing Tony and Jeff do one last lap together.

You mean there was a race today? I mostly saw a line of cars following Kyle Busch around the track. I thought I was watching Xfinity series.

I wish Kyle would of led all 160 green flag laps on 4 green flag pit stops laping all but the top 5 which was only his Gibbs teammates. With 0 passes for positions after lap 1. Because basically that's what we saw today for whatever reason($) those Gibbs cars are far better than the rest. so yeah the race was equal to how many people were in the stands.

I'm assuming he is referring to muscle cars that were specifically designed for maximum aerodynamic efficiency.

I happen to think we need the opposite of that, but I wouldn't mind muscle cars becoming a staple of this series again.
 
Found it funny that the drivers throw their bottles out of the window! Old skool!
Not the best race though although the last few laps made it interesting - shame we missed seeing jj and larson move up in final bend!
Looking forward to seeing 27 cars wide at pocono
 
@Johali, you could have started this thread on Saturday and the results would have been the same. Heck, you could start it for 2017 and we'll see a repeat of these opinions. This track simply does not put on a great show for NASCAR.

Listening to SiriusXM NASCAR Radio this morning, like here, the overall fan's opinion of this venue is that NASCAR needs to drop it from the schedule. This will not doubt be the theme of the day, show after show. In the meantime the hosts will continue to push its significance.

I wonder how long before NASCAR is asked to leave? Maybe for once NASCAR should be proactive.
 
7. Some may not like the cautions but it probably would have been a 2 without them. Kyle is one heck of a wheel man and it was pretty obvious to me that once Toyota got into NASCAR it wouldn't take them long to dominate. They are going to be the car to beat like Chev has been for years.

I've been having serious trouble sleeping lately, and I got a really good nap during the race. Longest uninterrupted sleep I'd had all week.

I think Nascar won't leave IMS but will probably come up with a gimmick like a 15 minute caution clock or some other race altering device in order to manufacture drama and interest.
