RATE THE RACE: Kansas I

Fox completely ignored a 3 way battle between the 24,18 and 29 that went on for 10 laps. If not for watching it on Stewarts Hotpass I'd have missed it.

8- Once again Hendrick sits on JJs pit box, JGs engine blows up "again", The only 2 Hendrick team engines to blow up this year. Resources "equal" my old wrinkled butt.

Kasey blew up at Martinsville?

The race was great . I give it a 10 for sure . Another 1o for Andy's post when Hamlin took the lead.Sorry about Bowyer's trouble , he was hoping for a good run there and I had him as a pick.

I would rate the race as 9. Good Stuff - especially for a 1.5 miler!

FOX gets a 5 at best. Did y'all hear DW mention Digger when they were showing the in-track cam angle? Had FOX shown a Digger animation the rating would be much lower.

Denny earned that win. I would love to have seen Truex in Victory Lane but I am OK with Grand Slam winning.

Happens all the dang time. when will the producers learn to let the story come to the tv instead of trying to put this here and that there crap.

9 the race was great but as long as it is on fox I won't give a 10 anymore.

With 18 votes in the race is Rated as a 8.0 by the highly respected Racing-Forums crew

They need to let the camera guys find the best action then leave it to the announcers to comment on it. Now they do the opposite. It's pathetic. At least when Speed covers a race they try to show the best actual racing.

Based on what I saw, I'd give it a 6 at best. But I have read the racing was better than what was shown on TV.

It is always better than what is shown on TV. Television never has and never will do this sport justice.

The key is the video truck. It would be great if a racer called which cameras to feed, and also had the ability to go to a split screen when there's more than one battle going on. When we miss a wreck during commercial, it would be nice if they went to a delayed feed and let the missed action play out naturally while the field is under yellow. Only after we got a taste of the live call should we hear the analysis from the talking heads.

Yes, my wish list is long.

Agreed. I'll give it a 6. Again, nothing I saw yesterday will be remembered for years to come for me. Still, better than the Texas race.

Still trying to figure out why Bowyer mashed the gas as he supposedly tried to make pit road to bring out the first caution. Maybe he felt something already amiss in his car and wanted the crew to take a longer look at it during a yellow flag pit stop. Who knows.

I, for one, don't mind seeing Denny Hamlin in victory lane. I liked that he chose Phoenix (actually, Paradise Valley), of all places, to rent a house and spend the entire offseason at. He said he wanted to get as far away from Charlotte as possible to get his mind clear, or something like that. Just thought it was cool that he would choose Arizona for a second home.

Clint downshifted to third. That was the spike in RPM and the cause of the spin, I think.

I heard that Denny wanted to live somewhere where he could play golf all winter. Part of the reason he chose AZ.

Those North Carolina winters are soooo rough. Denny said he wanted to get as far away from racing as he could, so he packed up and moved out for the offseason.

FOX seems to have taken the 2007 ESPN approach, which was basically calling the races off a script. ESPN has improved so much but as they 've improved, FOX and TNT have gotten worse and worse. TNT, especially, seems to do their races from a script. I had never seen any network cut away from side-by-side battles for the lead to talk about a 30th place car until last year.

FOX has so many unnecessary elements to their coverage, it's ridiculous. The studio updates where they talk about storylines, not the racing itself, several times, the halftime show during green flag racing which is the most inane thing I've ever seen, Crank It Up (it was cool at first), "On Pit Road". All this stuff, and the excessive use of Sportvision graphics, really takes away from the racing. ESPN has really gone the other direction though, last year and even more so with their Nationwide coverage, they're focusing on the racing with the exception of Danicatona.

ESPN is listening to the fans. Last year alone, they promoted Allen Bestwick and introduced NASCAR Nonstop. This year, they've quit using Full Throttle and Up To Speed (which was something they imported from NBC/TNT). Time for FOX and TNT to step up as well.

Just remove the announcers and only have a few pit reporters. Let us watch the race and hear the engines.

MRN/PRN announcers should be in the television booth and the director needs to be following their lead rather than the other way around. We'd be watching a much better race IMO.

Maybe they could get Dennis Miller to come out of oblivion. ;)
