Rate The Race: Kansas I

My post got deleted? lol

No rating. For whatever reason, I just couldn't get into this one. Truex and Blaney put on a decent show up front most of the night. There were way too many cautions for my tastes; the race never seemed to develop a flow or pace. I appreciated the reduced emphasis on aero grip, but I was out of the mood long before the three-car pile-up.
I'll go 7.75 but I probably would've gone higher if not for the reasons mentioned above. I hate when a race turns into a restart carnival.

Yes, because it was a somewhat derogatory remark about a poster, not a post.
Please don't do that. We may not all agree with each other, or even like each other, but let's keep the animosity to a
minimum in open forum.
We get real posts next week

I wasn't able to view the last two race's and this one was a solid 8.5 until the crash occurred. When they have to chop tops off to extricate the driver it ruins the whole damn thing for me. Now chopping the tops off the MEG's would make it :punkrocke

I didn't think there was animosity in pointing out a self-given name.

Could just be me, though.

The young guys seem to be asserting themselves. A lot of the front runners were mid pack. Johnson came from the back of the pack multiple times. I saw Mcmurray pass at least 6 cars on a restart. Blaney and his team kicked it up a bunch of notches (I was hoping he would get his first win). Truex showed his ability and also had the right setup in the end.

9. Last night was a lot like "the old days" with the single car spins. Making the cars tougher to drive showcases the drivers' skills. If NASCAR can make all the 1.5 milers that interesting they might have hit on something.

6 The crash was spectacular, until Aric had to be extricated, that was a mood wrecker. Man, I hope they just were over cautious pulling him out. He dropped the net and moved his head so that pretty much eliminates a neck injury. Gordon probably guessed it right, a driveshaft may have slammed his hip area. I hope he's wrong though.
Yeah, too many yella's, Seems like the stage cautions take 6 or 7 laps each------boring--- I mean really, why throw a caution at lap 80, why not divvy up the points at lap 80 and keep it green?

[I'm not gonna ding my rating for the race due to the injury to Aric. That could have happened anywhere, and it just doesn't feel fair to the Kansas race to rate it a zero because of a serious injury. YMMV. Very happy to read the favorable RPM announcement this morning.]

Awesome, awesome race... rating 9.5 for me. If you didn't like the fierce battles throughout the field, often 2 wide, often 3 wide, then I think major league stock car racing is just not your thing. Yeah, there were too many cautions... sorta like a typical race at Rockingham back in the day... but that shows how difficult it is to drive these low-downforce cars at competitive speed. Can you imagine diving into a 170 mph apex with glowing brake rotors? There were lots of comers-and-goers, but it remained tight at the front (usually ~0.5 second lead even when the fastest guys had the lead). And at the end, the fastest car won. I can't lie: I was pulling for Blaney, and would have boosted my rating if the Wood Bros. 21 had prevailed.

I give it a solid 7.5 as it had multi-groove racing, competitive moments and drama.

Just couldn't get into it either. Too many cautions, too little racing, much better things to do on a fine Saturday Night. 7.0

I will give it a 7-8. The battles were good throughout the night. Saw some comers and goers, saw Jimmie come though the field multiple times, they somehow made it through turn 2 4 wide. McMurray stuffing the car into another hole was awesome. A little jumbled at the end with all of the restarts. The wreck was an awesome sight. Like it or not, the sheer sight of those cars under the lights with all of the flames and sparks was extraordinary. The impact was incredible and it is really unfortunate that there was injury. I see people complaining about someone saying the wreck was awesome, I mean, we all watch the sport and we can all agree that the wrecks are truly incredible and that they are very much an aspect of the entertainment part of the sport. Someone saying that wrecks are not amazing to see is lying to everyone. Nobody is saying they want to see them, but we can all acknowledge that it is part of why the sport is intriguing. Also, nobody ever said that the injury was awesome to watch, so pound sand with that notion.

I HATE night races. Fell asleep last week during that Talladega ARCA race, fell asleep during the Truck race this weekend and now also during this one, shortly before the end of stage 2.
But I just watched the remainder of this race in relive and I give it a solid 7.

LOL. Was that like 4 am for you when stage 2 was ending? Glad you got to see the end later.

I'm curious how a rating like 5/7 gets treated in the computations to rank the races. Is it 7.14? Is it ignored? @ToyYoda ?
Yep. I discard any ambiguous or convoluted ratings. Also, I drop the highest and lowest vote, to help curb the effect of those who rate every race a 1 or a 10, and I also treat any rating higher than a 10 as a 10 and any rating lower than a 1 as a 1.
