Rate The Race: Martinsville II

What made all the laps prior to the last 30 so riveting?
Two competitive lines, with the outside sometimes being the preferred one. Even NBC didn't have any trouble finding a competitive battle most of the time. I think that's the most times I've seen a network use split screen to cover two fights for position.

10 anyone who didn't love this race surely isn't a race fan. Love this Chase format, keep everyone digging for the points.

Thank you for not assuming I didn't like the first 470 laps of the race. I am interested in the disconnect between Nascar fans at large and the fans of these boards as the greater Nascar fan base seems to love plate racing and it shows in attendance and ratings. Martinsville had 45k maybe and I doubt the ratings will be a good as the plate tracks. I am wondering what about the first 400+ laps the people liked and I appreciate TRL and you for answering.

I dunno about making comparisons between a race run on a sunny day and a clear forecast vs. one run when the forecast gave every indication the race would be affected by weather.

Personally, I question how many people at Talladega are actual NASCAR fans and would show up at other tracks, vs. being just plate fans and only pay attention to this place and Daytona, vs. how many are just fans of the Earnhardt family and its history there. Was that sentence run-on enough for everybody?

The first two stages were kinda meh.

Then we had the entire last stage. What we just witnessed was genuine short track racing.

Blaney vs. Harvick
Busch vs. Keselowski
Elliott vs. Keselowski
Logano vs. Keselowski
Should I go on? We had some nice battles today.

The finish, albeit not what everybody would have wanted I am sure, was thrilling. For me, it almost became the perfect ending, but I have nothing wrong with Kyle winning the race. I do take issue with what Denny did to Chase, and not just because of who he is. He totally went in over his head with that move.

Chase showed me today that he has really matured, and he really does seem to be getting edgier - as the commentators put it. I enjoyed watching him race, and lead the race today.

I would give it a 9.5.

10 - Last 100 laps were awesome. Really, most of the race was great. Ton of Drama. Choc will be happy.

10 for the race and a 10 for DP's in-car radio.Poor woman can't catch a break this year. Lost a little respect for Blaney as well.

DP caught a huge break today as she was very fortunate to finish in the lead lap in 17th place. Between wave arounds, fortuitous cautions and attrition she got a great finish.

Makes me damn happy to see that so many members liked this race. Good stuff.

9 great action crazy stuff.....some less than legit happened but on my feet for sure!!!

A 9 for me. Lots of great racing, then rubbing, then banging, then it got too rough but that's fun too!

Half the field took a wave around during the race.DP was p18 with 10 laps to go and finished p17 , so her finishing p17 do attrition is BS.

10.
This is why I like short track racing - and road courses - over the cookie cutter 1.5 mile rings. There were constant battles for every position from front to back with passing and hard, hard, racing in the second groove that went on for lap after lap and every lap had something going on. The best!! Give it

Maybe they are actually reading my comments on the Nascar Fan Council!

I was happy to see a second lane working. The race built up to the end. Brad bumping Chase; Chase bumping Brad back; Chase moved Brad out of the way; then Denny dumped Chase - I was yelling at my TV, something about dirty driving. Kyle showed Denny how it's done. I was thinking you don't want to be leading that race near the end. I was reminded of some other significant dumps I've seen over the years, I never liked those because my driver was usually on the receiving end. For a veteran Denny doesn't have the touch of finesse. I hadn't seen the fans react like they did in a long time - I'm thinking Earnhardt dumping Labonte at Bristol.

My rating: 8.5.

I'm somewhat ambivalent to the short track races. I like them as a change of pace, but feel we have enough and do not favor adding more. Including the mile tracks and the true short tracks, they are one-third of the season... just about right IMO. That said, this one was really good with the second groove working, tons of hard racing, and the playoff scenarios adding excitement from lap 1 to the end.

It got overly physical at the end. When there is a second groove, the racers should use it. Kyle Busch's attack on Logano was pretty blatantly dirty. Chase running Kez up nearly to the wall was... sketchy. Hamlin's move on Chase was blatant too.

I hate Kez not getting the win. First, I don't appreciate Logano's tactics after he was damaged by Busch with ~15 to go. It's not his job to support the 2, but a view of the big picture would be better. He was slow and getting passed by numerous cars. All he could accomplish by staying on the track was to say "F U Brad" so that's what he did. Second, Brad should have picked the bottom lane... for defensive reasons. So it is partly on him. And it is doubly dumb 'cause he made the same blunder at Indy and lost that race too.
