RATE THE RACE: Ohio

I don't remember who pointed out that football played in the rain is still football. It's slower and sloppier, and the tactics shift to emphasize safer running plays over long passes. That by itself doesn't keep it from being fun to watch. Sure, you'd rather see it played on a 70-degree afternoon with no wind just enough overcast to keep the sun out of the players' eyes. But if your team is playing, an inch of rain an hour and 25 mph winds aren't going to drive you to watch CSPAN, and they aren't going to keep most ticket-holders away.

I love football when its played in sloppy weather (Rain or snow). And I hate, Hate, HATE indoor arenas for football and baseball. On that note, I'd actually watch an outdoor NBA game.

Mid-Ohio is a terrible racing surface if conditions aren't optimal. AMA won't race at Mid-Ohio because the track is too slick when it rains, and they race in the rain on a regular basis. NASCAR has had rain races before and they weren't anywhere near as bad as this. And they've all been pretty bad.

Like I said, it was fun to watch because everyone loves a good trainwreck.

That said, I'll take a NASCAR race at Mid-Ohio over an INDYCAR race anyday. NASCAR seems to put on a good show there, wet or dry. Meanwhile, that race is always boring in INDYCAR.

And for those who keep score, Toronto and Mid-Ohio are the only INDYCAR races I ****mouth regularly.

Didn't think it was that fast . Guess the cars picked up speed going off track .Heard one crew chief order his driver to hit deeper puddles to reduce the vision of the car behind . Great racin , I guess:confused:
Is that any different from telling a driver to close up on another car's left rear quarter panel and take the air off so it gets loose? How about telling one to stopping short in the pit stall so the guy behind has a hard time getting out? Staying on the double-yellow at a plate track so other cars can't get underneath?

Tactics is tactics.

Gods, I can't stand Indy (or anyone else) at Toronto. It just seems like such a lifeless circuit. For as few races as IndyCar runs, they seem to run on more than their fair share of clunkers.

Sorry, wrong forum.

Mid Ohio and Toronto are the only races I don't like. Not a fan of Sonoma being the finale either. Overall their schedule is good. Better than when they raced at ovals almost every week with the exact same on track product.

fun race to see. no kb, but the cameras still focused on the rest of the gibbs cars under the long cautions.(yeah whats new?) So 10 when they raced, 2 under the longest cautions every ( this includes all road course cautions, they are all way too long) Seeing the leader spin and come out 3rd and still race? 10. The 42 car winning ( new guy) another 10. Little iffy on some of the cautions though --4-- DJ announcing? ahh , I think, ah ,ah , ah, ah , and I think ---3-- Nice guy but not worthy of a microphony--but way better than MW.

Actually I thought DJ tried real hard to do his job and put a positive spin on it . Bill Murray would have been much better.

I still call it nationwide too and before I called it Busch series a few years after that changed. Hell I still call Busch series.

I still do that a few times as well. It was the Busch series for so long it took me years to finally say Nationwide. Now it's gonna take a while for me to get used to it's new name. I still sometimes refer to the cup series as the Winston Cup as well.

Not surprising tho. Old folks complain a ton.

It was different and exciting. Not unlike a rain or snow game that has a drastic impact on a football game. And ya don't here football fans snivel and whine nonstop over that....

I agree as football fans roll with the punches and don't worry about weather regardless if they are at the game or sitting at home. It could be 100 degrees with 100% humidity or 0 degrees with a punishing windchill and it is all good for us.

I love this picture of the incomparable Woody Hayes as a little weather never never bothered him.

Yep, I still think of it as the BGN series.

10 from the entertainment perspective. Everyone loves a good trainwreck.
Yeah, train wreck describes what I saw. I had a chance last night to watch the DVR'd copy. While is was certainly unique, it wasn't much of a race. Mid-Ohio Challenge was certainly the appropriate name for the race. Slightly under half the race, 44%, was run under yellow conditions. Kudos to those of you that liked it. I'll pass.

Trying hard to think of something to say to those people , but there really is nothing , is there ? We are worlds apart .
Not a problem. While listening to the callers today on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio it sounded like a 50/50 split on this past weekend's race. On here, most every response was favorable. One thing's for sure, we'll never all agree on anything.

All it needed was a couple ramps 'n a school bus or two.

Maybe a figure 8 intersection somewhere.

I dunno.

Heard the rumor he 'n Keselowski are gonna be puttin' the next all start thing together tho.....

While it was an entertaining event I and thoroughly enjoyed the novelty of it I don't think what we saw constitutes any semblance of racing. And there's no way in hell I'd want to watch that in person. Having the luxury of being able to fast-forward through the cautions saved it.
