RATE THE RACE: Phoenix II

Pretty boring if you ask me. Mostly because of Johnson's dominance. There were some entertaining parts after the restarts, but it wasn't much of a race. Would have been better if someone could have challenged Johnson.

Must of been an exciting race, I fell asleep in my chair just after it started and woke up just as it ended.

Lucky bastard. I wish that would have happened to me, you didn't miss anything. I feel like I wasted 3 hours of my life with that race. I give it a .5.

Just curious, was your remote broke? Why watch if you found it that boring?

I'm insane. I repeatedly do the same thing over and over expecting a different result. Just curious, why do you give a damn? Why question someone elses post unless you are looking to start an argument?

Simple question really. I just don't get the idea of sitting there watching something that you find that boring. That goes for anyone that is so bored with this sport. Why bother with it?

Simple answer really. Because we love the sport, and were hoping the race would get better as it went along. Also, some people didn't watch the race. As stated by several others above, they either fell asleep, or did something else.

I think you're taking the comments out of context. I can't speak for others but "boring" in NASCAR terms is realitive. In this example, I was talking about "boring" when compared to the Louden race, the spring Talladega race, or the 1998 Daytona 500.

Was this race "boring" compared to this year's Grand Prix of Monaco? Hell no! In that comparison the race this weekend was like having sex in the back seat of a convertable parked on the beach with 4th of July fireworks in the sky.

So in short, I agree with Chromehorn. I think you're just trying to start an argument.

I'm glad someone else does. It just seems like week after week on here all I ever read are negative comments about the race. It does suck when someone dominates like yesterday but I'm afraid that it's more the coverage of the sport that sucks than the sport itself. I've been to plenty of races that get absolutely tanked on this site as far as ratings go yet from the stands they were great races.

I just wish we could these races on TV. I think that's what is getting some of us down -- in the past, TV would show us the race. Now, with all the gimmicks, bells, and whistles they have to play with, the TV people forget to show the race.

And I agree, there is nothing like seeing a race in person.

Agreed. I was at the Chicagoland race this year, and it was a blast watching it live. When I watched the DVR recording the next day, it was like a totally different race. I guess it goes to show that any race can be great if you're seeing it at the track.

Besides, what other race in the world can you go to and eat deep-fried rattlesnake and survive? Probably not many. ;)

I've always felt that television will never do this sport justice. We are limited to what they feel like showing us. It's not like there's no racing going on. I know that when I am at a race I'm always looking around the track for the different battles going on. That's what I tend to focus on. When I'm at home, I lose that option.

I was just hoping all race that someone would have something for JJ or a yellow would come out during green flag pit stops to shuffle the grid. Anything to change it up or give another car a chance to race JJ. I am not knocking what the 48 team has done, they are the best team the last 4 or 5 years in my opinion and I am not a 48 fan, but at some point another team has to rise up to their level and I hope I get to see the race where that happens.

I just find it hard to believe that 42 other cars on the professional level cannot compete with the 48 team for 4 years now.

Howdy Mike

Since all the other cars have the ability to change parts to become equal to JJ's car, it must come down to the drivers.. Maybe he has been the best driver for the past 4 years.
That's all I can come up with for his success. He simply must be the best there is.
Betsy;)

I give it a 4. It felt like the drivers wanted to race each other, but the cars were all setup to loose to allow passing.

If TNT covered it, I bet I would have rated it a 6.

I'll give it a 5. If they would have shown more of JJ I might give it a 6 or 7. :D

I simply cannot understand why a few of you continue to watch races. I completely enjoyed the race, as I always do. If I were as unhappy with the coverage or lack of racing that some of you complain about, I would change the channel and watch something else.

At least I get to see the last race of the year live. And I am still going knowing that JJ will probably win the cup. When I get home the brick is ready. :beerbang:

But you aren't us and we will continue to rate the races as we see them. some races are a high 8 to 10 and some are snoozers, same as the coverage. If you haven't noticed, many of the forum members have slacked off in their viewing of nascar lately.

TV Ratings Continue To Plummet

I know that this has been hashed out several times but I continue to read on the internet that some feel that JJ's winning is partly to blame for the decline in attendance and TV ratings. Surely the COT is part of the reason. Nationwide (downforce) cars, in my opinion, put on a better race. I know the economy also plays a big part. I have to be honest, my friends and I did not go to Phoenix partly because of the JJ thing (now I'm REALLY glad I didn't go). 6 hours in the car, one-way, to watch that crap would have been depressing. I did not even watch the broadcast past about lap 125. I probably will not watch Homestead, I already know the end result, Homestead does not factor in.

I do laundry while the race is on during the dull parts. I rate this race "5 loads" where 10 loads is the worst and 0 loads is the best.

You mean like eating rattle snakes.

I can't agree with you any more! This isn't a pesonal attack on anyone in any way, but I just can't understand all the complaining. I mean if you hate it so much find something else to do or watch. I am a big football fan, and every now and then I switch over during commercials and check on games, but I always come back to the race. I love racing. It is my favorite sport by far! I don't care who is winning most of the races, I look forward to sunday afternoon all week long. Things like who is winning all the time and what channel the race is on is minor to me. I just want to see the races! My wife was joking that it is almost time for me to have to go through my three month withdrawl while the NASCAR season is off. That is true! LOL

Myself, I think it is pretty awsome to witness history, and that is what we are doing right now. Four in a row is un heard of! I don't care what we think of the point system that has provided it, it is the point system of today and it takes mastery to win four in a row. Jimmie, Chad and the 48 team are a dynasty. They obviously work hard and deserve the fruits of their labor. Just because Jimmie isn't the most popular driver on the track doesn't make what he and his team has accomplished any less important. To them I saw congratulations!

You think the races are dull now from what I heard on twin last night the races will be worse next year with the new rules passing will be all most impossible. Thanks nascar. :(

Not sure --- Chad mentioned last night that the teams had gotten a "pamphlet" as he called it, with new rules/changes for next year. He said that it "tightened the box" they have now.

I kinda hope Chad was the only one that got that new pamphlet! LOL

Well stated! I plan my chores around the race. If I am at the short track I take my Sirius receiver and a low power transmitter so I can listen to the NASCAR race on the headphones.

The last "BAD" race I can remember was the 2001 Daytona race.

That said, I am getting pretty tired of the Johnson/Knauss inquisition.
