Rate The Race: Pocono 1

A solid #10!!!! For the red and white Sprints and Modifieds that Ryan's Grandpa Lou piloted to hundreds of victories on the local short tracks. For the late models that his Great uncles piloted to to victories, and sadly, devasting injuries. For Dave's first sprint car. AND for that tattoo that Ryan got a little while back. Old school??? Hell Yeah!!!

Pocono ratings should start at 7 for the trophy alone. They are beautiful.

I think a 6 is about right. The actual race was less than stellar, but the finish was pretty good. I did find it interesting hat there were so may complaints and issues with brakes and I liked how there were 3 different strategies to finish. I really believe the stage racing has created some desperation, which is a good thing. I listen to Larson's radio weekly and in the stage 2 win they were strategizing how to be in the front with all of the pitting for the end of the second stage because of the playoff points. While we may not like the idea of playoff points, it is creating a bit of drama during the race.

Watched it today, I'll give it a 8.5
Even though Kyle dominated it was a pretty solid race, and a great finish helped too.

7

ditching the stages would have made it a bit more of an endurance event .... like a long race should be
What, ride around for the first 2/3 of the race? Play follow the leader as in the past?
I love the stage racing, a lot of good drivers still want to race the old way and they are digging themselves in a hole points wise. It will show up as the chase begins.

Breaking up a race into pieces is not acceptable to me :idunno:

I don't really see what is wrong with it? There are a ton of local short tracks that do this now as well. They will take a 125 lap LM race and make it 75 and then 50. It allows for adjustments to the car, but no tire changes. I like that they allow the teams to try and take big swings at it without fear of losing a lap during long green flag runs. It seems to open up the playbook so to speak for the crew chiefs.

Just curious, let's say your watching an NFL game and the Patriots are down to the Falcons by... oh, I don't know, let's say 25 midway through the 3rd quarter. Man most of the game the Falcons really stunk up the show...but wait, the Patriots come back and win in OT...For me one of the greatest Super Bowls I ever watched. Does every lap need to be exciting or is is the overall finish that makes it great?
An example on the flip side is Super Bowl XXIII between San Francisco and Cincinnati. That game is regarded as one of the best Super Bowls of all time, mainly because of Joe Montana perfectly executing the game winning drive with very little time left on the clock. But for three-and-a-half quarters, that game was a turd.

I don't care for either of those examples because I was rooting for Cincy and Atlanta! LOL

Pocono...On the other hand...:headbang:

The reason this example is flawed is because the Falcons scored 28 points in 2+ quarters on the best team in the league. The better example would be if the game was 0-0 at the end of regulation and both teams had punted 10 times. Then the Patriots scored the winning TD in overtime. Exciting finish, horrible game. Last year's Super Bowl was the greatest ever because it had action from start to finish.

Today had nothing until the end. Busch had a 5+ second lead most of the race. There's was almost nothing, literally, happening for 350 miles.
I disagree, it looks like there was over 3,000 passes made during green flag racing on Sunday. With only 200 laps that is quite a bit of action from start to finish. I guess with football you get to see pretty much all the action, with a race broadcast, not so much. Sure, I know I am biased because Blaney won and I want to think it was the greatest race ever.

Unless you were at the race you missed most of them.

TEEVEE only cares about the leaders.
