Rate the Race: Sprint Cup @ Darlington

I don't get it , Nascar racing has all sorts of tracks . They are all different and provide fans with a different experience at each . You get a track where you can run six wide like Indy and people say it's boring because there's 'no beatin and bangin' , then you have a one grove track like Darlington and people call it 'single file racing '. I'm gettin too old for this crap.

7.5

I thought it was exciting. Darlington is a cool old race track. I don't know what people expect out of NASCAR races anymore.

2 out of 10. The cars went single file almost immediately and the drivers were content to just turn laps on cruise control till the end.
I'm sure we would've seen more passing live in the grandstands. FOX has a tendency to focus cameras on one car and it gets annoying not being able to see anything else in the picture.

IMO, it's not just FOX that doesn't know how to cover a race as camera coverage of all Cup races generally sucks

watching the Spanish Grand Prix this morning reminded me of just how good the TV broadcast of a race can be

I give this year's Southern 500 a B- partly due to the fact that I can only judge it based upon what FOX allowed me to see

I will give it a 7.5 it was far from being boring but the finish could have been a little more exciting. I would like to see the Chevys step up just a little more and then I think the finishes will start being a little more exciting. But my hats off to JGR and the Toyotas they are doing an outstanding job right now. Jimmie and Jeff had pretty good cars but I think Kasey had the strongest Chevy at the end and he gave Kyle a pretty good run until he went in a little hard and Kyle got him a little loose and he just couldn't hang on to it. But that's racing if you don't crash once in a while then you probably aren't trying very hard.

3 the first half, 8 the last 80 laps or so. I liked that the track was pretty racey , you could pass and go on the apron but that also helped with little cautions because guys didn't have to be right up against the wall to go fast. More cautions would have helped

It's pretty simple. When I watch a race, I want to see Drivers race and attempt to pass each other. I want to see them take risks and not be content to simply drive around and enjoy the scenery.

I don't think the Gen 6 car is going to be all things to all tracks, on this track they were super fast and on the edge so you aren't going to see much two wide racing, lack of cautions didn't help either. the next time it might be different? Too soon to tell. But what, ten or twelve cars on the lead lap, and for most of the race the leader was half a lap ahead? I don't think that was Nascar's idea of close competition, but you can't have every race turn out close..sooo on to the next one.

I enjoyed the race. It is rare to get few cautions in a race these days. I thought Kyle and Kasey were the cars to beat. Too bad Kasey over drove at a key moment (the laps up to it were exciting) and it was too bad that Kyle had a tire problem. I was surprised to see Denny finish so well after his hiatus. I was happy to see Gorden with a good finish. And I like seeing Matt continue to do well with his new team.

6.
Not up to the usual Darlington standard, but they all cant be classics.

It's a 500 mile race. Watch a Saturday night 50 mile feature at the late model track if you want to see them dive bombing around like manics from the first lap.

Who are you responding to? It's certainly not me, because I never asked for anyone to be dive bombing like maniacs.

I wish there were two races a year at Darlington

I know that it's hard to see them all on TV , but because you didn't see them ,it doesn't mean they weren't there. I try to follow the race on radio and on my laptop . Then if I miss stuff , I can't complain too much . You missed 2,370 green flag passes by the way , and I didn't see anybody ridin around. I saw my two pool drivers running 1st and 2nd , instead of riding around and giving me a one/two finish , the idiots took each other out. To me ,that was hard racing , too hard.

That's funny right there.:)

I don't want to give it a rating, it was the best race I've seen there in awhile though. I felt like I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I would have been in the stands.

3 very boring race watching kb out front and having dw always kissing up to him. Can't really rate it any higher with a trd dirtbag winning the race. As far as kasey over driving the turn I think you meant Kyle drove in over his head taking out kahne

I'll give it a 7. A good race overall, but disappointing by Darlington standards. The cars got spread out quickly after the restarts.

Bleck besides a 50 or so lap stretch it was a snoozefest. I give it a 3.5

I couldn't agree more. Look how many fans after a lot of the races say it was a snooze fest. You can't blame it all on the cars and the tracks. If a driver is timid and afraid to race then they might as well go back to Arca.

I know this ground has been covered before but perhaps it's time to award more points to the race winner.

couldn't hurt . . .
