RATE THE RACE: STP Gas Booster 500

Wish they would put up lights and run this race at night.
And don't forget some kind of heating system too. This time of the year it's normally in the upper 30's or low 40's there at night. Just not the right time of the year there for a night race IMO.

Yeah I keep forgeting that Nascar fans can't stand to get a little chill like the local dirt track fans. Would be a great track to run nite races if they could adjust the schedule though.

I think we were expecting to see old scores settled especially when Johnson, Gordon, and Bowyer were staged to replay last year. I think these days drivers express themselves after the race like Harvick did with Vickers - come to think of it Harvick has been involved with a number of post race incidents in recent years.

Johnson got max points, is it ironic or fitting that max points is 48?

Good racing down in the field.

I thought the Johnsonville race was alright. Would give it a 7.5

Now I have a craving for brats. Those commercials were on all the time during NASCAR races about a decade ago.
Yeah they sold some hot dogs..I'll be buying some next time I go to the store..going to try that toasted bun thing.

I'd rate the race an 8.5.

Even though the 48 ended up dominating the weekend I enjoyed it quite a lot. Good racing and some great comebacks for some damaged cars.

I still wonder why JJ stacked up the field on that one restart. He said he got into some fluid or some such nonsense. Jimmie would never miss a shift, right?

I can't eat hot dogs/brats/italians/burgers without a toasted bun now. I'm totally spoiled by a nice buttered toasted bun. When I go to the old ballpark to catch a baseball game (or the race track for that matter) and I have a brat or hot dog on a plain bun, I feel like I'm living in caveman times.

Anyway, I'd give this race an 8. Some awesome short track action!

He said oil but I wonder if he got too high in the marbles.

Some guys get all the luck. His Greatness #48 makes a mistake and he gets a caution at just the right time.

7. just because this track has such high standards and reputation. We have been fortunate to have a very good year of racing so far though; This might be the best year for NASCAR in a long time in all 3 divisions. I feel like there are more contenders for wins than in recent memory

Feel the same way. has been a great year so far. Lots of new faces and contenders all over the place. Hopefully it stays this way all season and what we are seeing isn't just early season jostling.

I say 8.5. Jimmie's my driver so I'm happy that he won. Also some good short track beatin and bangin. However, whoever sad Auto Club spoiled us was spot on.

The only reason it spoiled us, IT SUCKED IN THE PAST.

Let's not forget how many napping hours over the past several years are linked to this tracks ability to make clean air king of the day.

This is correct 110%!!
When the races were 500 miles it was a snoozefest for the fans in the stands and for the TV viewers.
They shortened the race by 100 miles and made it a little bit more tolerable.
But this last race was one of the best ever at Fontucky!
The Nationwide Race was the BEST race I have ever personally seen at that facility - and that includes Pee Wee's Truck victory (which was an epic battle) and all of the INDY Car races I have seen there.

But despite all of the past indifference to this race, you must admit that this was a "goodun"!!

I feel really dumb, but I've heard you say Pee Wee a ton. WHO THE HELL IS HE?

Then you never saw the 2001 Champ Car finale at Fontana. That was the greatest race in the history of racing.

It's not dumb... Kyle Busch IS Pee Wee. He looks more like the Pee Wee Herman doll than Paul Rubens does!
And the name fits his attitude very well, don't you think? ;)
