I'll give the race a 7. First time I've lowered a rating due to a wreck (would've been a 9). The racing was great all day. Nice change from your average race. Unlike what Daytona has been this year, the second line was able to compete with the bottom line. Reminded me of what drafting was like at restrictor plate tracks before tandem drafting. It's a shame about the last lap wreck. I know there's usually a big one at restrictor plate tracks, but it usually isn't THAT big.

Denny Hamlin gets a 0 for being the biggest wuss out there today.

Did you see him spin himself out way at the back and then stall the car? What an idiot. Then he does an interview and talks about how he slowed up to let everyone wreck and kept his speed up and drove through the mess. He did get moved back to 14th, 23 points back.

The guy is in fantasy land. I think he's one step away from full breakdown.

Hamlin was about the only smart one out there today. Driving down to the apron and allowing the car to spin out rather than pile in to the wreck like an idiot probably earned him 20 points and kept him within striking distance.

Would've given it a 9 had it not been for the wreck. Would've liked to see where my former driver Michael Waltrip would've ended up after potentially getting past Stewart - my current driver.
My eyes were glued to the tv all day. I can't say that for the past two races. So you don't like Talladega?
Fine, then.
Just don't scold me for liking it.

On to the next one.

It has always been my favourite track to watch racing.........you just never know what may happen and I like the way they always had to get help and team up......made for an entertaining day

Exactly. When I was watching NASCAR in the early 80's, I really thought these guys raced just 5 times a year - twice at Daytona, once at Michigan, and twice at Talladega. We didn't have cable back then so all I had to watch was CBS and Wide World of Sports. Talladega's in my blood, man.
The day NASCAR remove's this track from the schedule is the day I stop watching.
Well, not really. I'd still watch. I'd just be really (ticked) off.

Other than the last lap I enjoyed it. I watched my driver race all day long rather than hang out in the back. He was looking good for a top 10 until the last lap but that's the way it goes sometimes. The driver that took the strategy to run up front all day was the winner of the race so that was cool.

9- Excitement from start to finish. Could've lived without the crash at the end but that's gonna happen at almost any track when the field is bunched up for a GWC and the second place car gets turned in front of the field. Not 25 but a good amount. JR's comments afterwards.... still laughing:D

The race was a 6 for me but seeing a pile of wadded up shivvys at the end boosted my rating up to a solid 8

I need to make a video of Denny's post race imaginings and lay it over reality. It's real bizzare.

I give a "great race" rating. Kept me on the edge of my seat until the end. Some people say a restrictor plate race doesn't belong in the chase, some say the chase doesn't belong in the season, but as a race, this was good. Sure, some things are left to chance, but that's racing. No telling what would have happened at the line if not for the big one, but either way, this race will remain in everyone's memory for a long time.

This race had me on the edge of my seat all day. I'm just glad that no one could hear me yelling for, and at some of the drivers. Like when Jr got a speeding ticket. Heck, if nascar could have heard me, they would have thought that I my last name was busch and called me to the trailer. With that many lead changes and all the excitment, I would have to give it a 9. But I was hoping that there would not be a wreck at the end.

I didn't see the race but it was nice to see Kenseth get the win so he's probably going to have to win 4 of the next 6 to stand any chance. That still may not be enough but all of the remaining tracks are favorable for him - if they can get better speed/handling out of the car.

Now if he could only learn how to turn right ;)

Gotta give it a 3, biased because none of my drivers won, (Jr, Jr Truex, or Smoke) & because Kenseth, the one SOB I didn't wanna see win, won...

I don't quite understand the mentality of laying back till the end . Near the end of the race, the driver decides "it's go time " ,and drives toward the front . But wait, the guys that have been in the front all day , aren't just going to move over . There will be blocking and dirty driving as they attempt to keep their positions .You know there is going to be a crash and I think the guys coming from the back are the cause.

I don't understand how "Race Fans" can consider what is presented at Daytona and Talladega to be "Racing".
But some folks like Red and some folks like Blue so there ya go...

No Plate Race gets higher than a 6 on my ratings meter.
It's great theater, kinda like WWF wrestling - but it's a bastardization of what racing should be. IMO.

I'll give this one a 5.5 - and that's being quite generous...

The crash reminded me more of this

STOP THE CARS DON'T THROW CARS AT EACH OTHER:D

THIS!

I have been thinking this for two days now.

With one swift move Tony Stewart changed the points into something, not a chase though. Thats for sure.

There were several guys in the hunt, now there are three.

Everybody who rated Dega 8.0 or higher, you don't plan on watching a chase for the cup do you?

Cause it could become a one horse race very quickly.

Denny, Jimmie, Brad. That's it. ALL the other guys, seee ya next year.

You make it sound like anyone who liked the race is wrong for doing so. Personally, I watch each race on its own merit. And this one had me on the edge of my seat all day. I would have rather not seen the wreck at the end, but it happened.

That's why the grandstand seat are bolted down at Nascar tracks. To prevent this from happening.

You liked it. Good. But don't tell me that one guy making a mistake and taking out several chase guys, while the #2 of Brad slides by and the points get lopsided is making for a good chase.

I think if guy drives to hard and wrecks himself. It's on him. But it's all on Tony Stewart this time. And that sucks.

"It's just racing" lingo isn't going to help the chase.

Like I said, I base the race on the merits of the race itself. I couldn't give a crap about who gets through and gets points or not. Chase points have no affect on me, and I really couldn't care less about that.
