Rate the race: Talladega II

Sounds like MoeJoe nailed it.

Great analysis there Moe.

No, this guy did.

THIS!

I have been thinking this for two days now.

With one swift move Tony Stewart changed the points into something, not a chase though. Thats for sure.

There were several guys in the hunt, now there are three.

Everybody who rated Dega 8.0 or higher, you don't plan on watching a chase for the cup do you?

Cause it could become a one horse race very quickly.

Denny, Jimmie, Brad. That's it. ALL the other guys, seee ya next year.
As for me I strongly agree on one point for sure, I dont especially care about the chase because it is what it is and is going to end as it ends. I would do back flips for a week if they would abolish it starting next year. But I watch each race for what it is and the race at Dega was a solid 8 in entertainment for me. Lots of passing, lots of rubbing, lots of racing. My personal thought on the chase is it should spontaneously combust into fragments immediately, so you are correct, I plan to pay very little attention to the chase itself.

I'm a Nascar fan . I watch them all and like them all. I get a kick out of this thread after every race because noone seems to like any of them. That's just the way it is . If it's tight pack racing or the leaders are lapping the field , it's just racin to me.

Some people like spinach, some don't. Those that don't, normally don't eat spinach. Those that don't like spinach and eat it anyway and complain about it afterward, well, that I don't get. Sorry, I though I was in the food forum there for a minute. MY bad.

I thought the racing was good. Not great. It wasn't like it was a few short years ago. This past Sunday was the last plate race in the COT. Next year will probably be something different. Maybe, we'll all like it? Then again probably not.

People simply have a love/hate relationship with restrictor plate races. Just look at the stands from this past Sunday. It seems that there are more tarps and less fans in the stands. Is that the average fan showing his/her distaste for the racing there or simply another reflection of the trend of declining attendance everywhere? Supposedly 88,000 people were in attendance this past weekend. Ten years ago there were 165,000. The numbers have been dropping ever since yet at the same time this race always has more viewers than the race the week before. Talladega continues to draw a larger television audience than the race leading up to it. People are still watching, they're just not going.

Watching some of those old RP races shows how much it has changed. There was some pack racing, but there also was some seperation. There was a little tandem drafting, but much less than today.

Conclusion: NASCAR needs to fix the car and tire situation.

Moe, just a thought. What did you think of the year Matt Kenseth won the Cup? If I recall correctly, there was a lot of complaining that he only had 1 win but still bested 2nd place by 90 points. Now you are complaining that because of one person making a bonehead move, there are only 3 drivers that are in contention. I didn't see you write it, but I'd bet you dislike plate racing. Just a hunch. BTW, I enjoyed the race and as a Tony Stewart fan, I was elated until that last lap. I'll give that race a solid 8 for the excitement.

Go back through this season and find a ten race stretch that Hamlin, Kes or JJ didn't have an issue. JJ has had five 27th or worse finishes this year. Hamlin has had seven 20th place or worse finishes and Brad has four 30th place or worse finishes.

This chase is not over yet.

All the NASCAR racing has changed over that period of time. Its ever evolving. Things change with the exception of us fans. I like the race I was watching.

The seperation that was there in the old days has pretty much disappeared in all of the racing venues due to parity. IMO

Me too, until it got stupid. Unfortunately, cars packed to gether 4 wide will often end that way. Adumb block should never result in 24 wrecked cars.

And it usually doesn't but this time it did.

Side note for ya Fender. I received my NASCAR Fan Council survey email shortly after my last reply to your above post. I made sure that I told them not to pay attention to your complaining. I was surprised by an immediate response from Brian himself. He told me that he was just getting ready to act on your fix the car/tire and aero situation until he got my suggestion. Long story short..... It looks like we are going to remain status quo for a while. ;)
