Why is the number of passes for the lead a thing?

It can be an indicator of the number of competitive cars. Or not.

Why is the number of passes for the lead a thing?

It is certainly not always the case but passes for the lead can indicate how big an impact aero had on a race. For instance if every car that came out of the pits first ends up checking out on the field it would be a good indication aero was prominent that day and that sort of thing is important as aero must be mitigated as much as possible. If Nascar ever hopes to appeal to a younger fan base or even maintain what it has left pronounced aero must be treated as Superman views kryptonite.

I have zero problem with that if it is accomplished on merit.

My medical marijuana helps alleviate chronic pain and swelling in my joints (no pun intended) but I can still tell the makes of the the cars in the finishing order so I am saying you were on something good.....and I want some of it.........

Don't do drugs, but do partake in a victory beer after each TRD win from my officially licensed TRD beer stein (I am not joking). Drugs may, in fact, help to assimilate better with the masses around here. I already have the talking points: 1) Attendance, 2) TV ratings, and my favorite, 3) Great rrrrrracin'.

LOL, I am looking forward to Phoenix and have enjoyed the past 2 races all without the aid of any drugs or alcohol. However copious amounts of both are needed for some of the events.
