RATE THE RACE: Watkins Glen

Absolute 10. I wish more guys could race hard like that without going crazy. Beating, banging and no wrecks.

What was Kyle thinking pulling in front of a car that was going 20 mph faster?

I thought we were gonna have one between brad and kyle till they said oil to blame

10 easily. Maybe 15?

Somebody remind me why cup needs a third RC?

9.5 - Good race. Last lap was excellent. Jr and Gordon - at least they tell the truth.

I thought Andy said that everyone was complaining about this race? o_O It looks to be far from that.

In my book there will never be a race that is a 10 but this is damn close. The finish however, it was a 10. The finish had everyone in our household on the edge of their seat. It didn't matter who won, it was a good time. Today was a huge step towards getting a road course placed into the Chase IMO. I have a feeling NASCAR will be hearing from a lot of fans that are going to be leaning in that direction. I know I'll be stating so as part of the NASCAR Fan Council.

Me too DP.

I don't expect that Earnhardt declaring after the race that he doesn't like road courses will help sway Nascar in your favour.

Didn't get to see the race, but listened to it on MRN while on the way back from the coast. It amazes me that at times it seems that more people dislike road courses until they see a race like this. I loved it and listening to the end on the radio was tops. I give it a 10 too.

O.K, it was awesome, I was up at 2:00 am to watch and it was worth the fact that at work I will be tired all day.
Please NASCAR, realise that road corses are great for racing, great for fans and also to ensure that the right hand side of steering racks get utilised.

I love this kind of racing. This is what is the best.

I can relate. MIS next week will be a foreign entity compared to the excellnce we saw this weekend.

I hope you are wrong, but I think you are right.

Was surprised to see a lot of attrition early on, and weird stuff like tires falling or breaking off of cars.
Congrats to Ambrose. Also, my apologies to him for calling him naughty names before watching any replays when he was behind a spinning Tony Stewart. My bad.
I also would like to applaud NASCAR for not throwing any cautions at the end. It would have deprived us of the great finish we all saw. If this was an oval, the cautions a no-brainer.
Just my opinion. Doesn't mean I'm right.

You could tell Jr was biting the hell out of his tongue!
I heard three separate interviews with him and he basically said the same in all three although he elaborated much more in the MRN post race and C.B. Lang's post race interviews. He said that he was in a good position and his car was pretty decent. He said that he was over driving it at the end and that's why he lost it. 'Driving like a fool' was his quote. Nothing to do with the oil. He did say that there was oil all over the place at the end but that you could not see it. I heard that sentiment echoed from many drivers yesterday.

This is a very curious situation. Drivers are claiming that there was oil but couldn't see it nor could Nascar see it. Some drivers have said it was a fine mist so did anyone see any on the car cam lenses? Should Nascar start dyeing the different fluids various fluorescent colors or just say to hell with it, a little oil on the track is no big deal and makes for better finishes?

What level of backlash would LaBonte have received had he pulled over and caused a caution?

Honestly, what it comes down to is who spun out and all I see is the same old whine from the the same old sour grapes - however, at this point I think it's turned into vinegar :D

I missed that part too. Did cameras actually show the oil? I thought I heard Ambrose say that he couldn't see it.

Agreed!
I'm not a big roadracing fan but I tell if all the road course where like Watkins Glenn I sure would enjoy them more, Great Layout, Elevation Changes, Beautiful piece of the Country Side, The Blue Got Ya guardrails.... I'd like to attend that race one day.

Sure the slip and slide ending was crazy, but there was a ton of great racing all day. What a race.

I watched Tony on RB trying to get by Kez for 3 laps. Kez was beating Tony around 90% of the track, but Tony was making it all up in the bus stop and would get right to Brads bumper in the carousel. Tony actually got 2 inches of bumper under Brad, but couldn't make a clean pass and backed off. Tony needed to close the gap just a little to get Brad on the next lap, so he really drove hard through the short chute and into the last 2 turns and spun. Fascinating stuff. It was also cool watching how Tony ran right on the rumble strips and got extra grip all the way through the carousel.

Larry Mac was saying earlier in the day that you can set up the car for that section and make some passes, but you would be slower around the rest of the track. It's pretty clear that's what was going on.

Nobody, including the track officials, could see any oil. From what I can see, the problems didn't start until the last lap when Kyle slid all the way outside in turn 1. Why stop the race then? It probably would have resulted in a Kez win, but we would have missed a great show.

If they had thrown the caution after the leader took the white flag , the race would have been over ,right.?
