I'll add one more bit of useless information. The term "redneck" referred originally to farmers. They worked out in the sun all day, often stooped or bent over, thus obtaining a deep red tinge to the backs of their necks. Farmers are the backbone of this country. Without them, you go hungry. So if anything, the term is complimentary - it means you are a hard worker who needs only the simple things in life to thrive and survive.

But we all know it ain't used that way anymore...

My Dad called Catholic People Red Necks,of course he was Archie Bunker to the enth degree. When we have time to fight amongest ourself we have forgotten what give us the right to do so.:)

Why is it that anytime the topic of discussion is rednecks, somebody has to get nekkid? :ROFLMFAO:

So the problem with this country is that there is not enough naked people running around?

Probably. Think about it. If we had more nekkid people running around...

*Nobody would be worried about what kind of car you drove, so auto theft would decrease.

*Peeping Toms would have no reason to be a nuisance.

*Strip clubs would go out of business, thus reducing drug trafficking.

*Nobody would have to worry about how to afford Tommy clothes, so less theft.

*Airport security would be a breeze.

*Shows such as The Golden Girls, Donahue, and Roseanne would no longer be on the air.

*Wrestling would be just downright disgusting..but for a different reason than it already is.

*Ricky Craven would have a new paint scheme.

*Fewer people would be overweight...they'd burn it all off chasing one another.

:p

from the Dictionary

red·neck Pronunciation Key (rdnk)
n. Offensive Slang
Used as a disparaging term for a member of the white rural laboring class, especially in the southern United States.
A white person regarded as having a provincial, conservative, often bigoted attitude.

The thing is the rebel flag wasn't just made yesterday, it was made long ago by a group of people. If stood for what they wanted it to stand for because they made it. It stood for what the confederate stood for now what did the confederate stand for??????

Boy, do NOT start that train a rollin with me. Tell ya what...you're so smart, you tell US what it stood for.

Oh I am sorry I guess Im wrong again lol the confederat army was no way afiliated with the rebel flag I guess Im dumb old idiot once again

The Confederate Army stood for the CSA. An indepentent nation.

By the way , what dictionary are you using? My Webster defines redneck n: a white member of the Southren rural laboring class.

But I feel even that is wrong. I don't think it's limited to the South, I've met them from all over.

And while you are defining things, Smack, don't you think you're a little bigoted towards the South?

I live in the south for one

another I used dictionary.com

These are the definitions that my trusty American Heritage dictionary (3rd Ed, unabridged) offer for "redneck":

red*neck n. Offensive Slang. 1. Used as a disparaging term for a member of the white rural laboring class, especially in the southern United States. 2. One who is regarded as having a provincial, conservative, often bigoted sociopolitical attitude.

Guess this is generally regarded as innaccurate.

If you have a come a long hanging from a tree in your front yard with a motor on it,You are prolly a Red Neck.
If you look at a family reunion as a place to meet girls,You are prolly a Red Neck.
If you have to climb a water tower to defend your sisters honor by cleaning her name off of it,Well you are prolly a Red Neck.
:p Any Question?:p :p :p :p

omg omg omg....The war had little or nothing at all to do with slavery. It was a power struggle concerning states rights and had been festering since the Revolution. In certain ways it was CAUSE for the Revolution. If yer gonna argue history, at least get yer dern facts straight.

Its pointless to paste facts of any kind on this board, evidently alot of people on this board have opinions and facts confused.

I'll take this one, if I may...

Certain fringe organizations have poached the flag to use in their own causes, whether it be hate, racism, fear or simple defiance.  This has led to mass misconception and even more stereotyping, as if we Southerners didn't already have enough of that to deal with.

I don't own a rebel flag.  I don't own an image of one unless it would be on a CD cover or something like that.  I don't plan on buying a rebel flag anytime soon.  But anyone who knows me, or knows me from here, should be able to figure out that I am a proud Southerner, and will be until I'm called home.

The flag means different things to different people.  Some rightly feel offended when they see it.  Some feel offended for the wrong reasons.  Some feel pride, some feel remorse, some feel ashamed.  Most people that I know personally that do fly or display it, and that would be probably 100 people or more, do so for the same or similar reasons.  It is not done to make some racist statement.  I want that out of the way right now.  Southerners, at least true, rural, born-n-raised Southerners, see that flag as a reminder that, while slavery was wrong, we allowed ourselves to be defeated once.  Contrary to what your politically correct history books want you to believe, slavery was not the only, or even primary, issue during the War Between the States.

Put another way...the South is the only region of the United States that has, or had, its own symbol by which one can be identified.  California liscense plates are sought after by hot rodders and others so they may identify with a certain perceived image.  Ask a true Texan about Lone Star Beer.  New England has...well....give me a minute...  Many of us feel that the area we live in is the best place in the country to live.  Southerners have the rebel flag to use as an identifying symbol.  If other areas had such a symbol, they would use them just as liberally as we use the Stars and Bars.

To me, anyone who uses the rebel flag as a symbol of racism, hatred, or other negative causes is plain wrong.  But I'll fight till the last drop of blood to protect and preserve the flag as a symbol of my proud Southern heritage.
I could not have said it better................myself..........Beer's to ya!
Im from Texas..............and i know all about th stereotype thing!

Why do people need to place themselves in pigeon holes? Why is there a desire to seperate themselves? Why does the south need "it's own symbol"? Why do African-Americans need their own TV station?

dont get me wrong with what i am saying. i know what i am talking about just might not make it sound right on here.

if it was not for the "slave trade" most of the african-"americans" would not be alive. because of all the sicknees and hungry over there. they might not have had the best of lifes but they was fed and could start familys and later when that was free they was in a good country and could live a good life.

i heard this on the radio today and thought it was somewhat true.

no it was on John Boy And Billy. Rayferd (or how ever you spell it) read it. i think it was a letter some one wrote to him.

racism is probally worse over there then over here.I dont think anyone had problems before countries took over there land and abused there people. Look at america I dont recall the indians haveing any problems before we took it over from them. Same with other countries takeing over parts of africa.World hunger might be mainly because of over population but its also got to do with alot more then that.alot of african countries treat blacks like crap. Also alot of blacks over there harrass and abuse white farmers.

In my opinion people can fly whatever flag they want as long as it offends nobody. There is no way that slavery can be justified, that was the worst time period in our countries history.

IT is bs to think we helped them . takeing them from where they were born to over here were they would have no rights and be worked to death.

I was just adding they didnt have hunger problems over that at that time, atleast I didnt think so.

owned skooled etc etc you did better then someone. I think owned started from gameing though when someone got there but kicked in a game they would say you got owned. then it started spreading.

If my aged brains serves me right,
CSA was Confederate States of America
The Civil War was MAINLY about state's rights.
Despite how any dictionary defines "redneck" in 2002, the word did originate well before the Civil war and DID refer to men who worked the fields and whose necks were sunburned because of their hard labor.

If one intends nothing but respect or pride in their southern heritage, FLY THAT FLAG.

I STILL display my POW/MIA flag and I HATED that "conflict".

PEACE, RESPECT ALL AND WISH NO HARM
