Red Bull leaving NASCAR

He started his CUP career in Hendrick cars...

Oh I know and I mentioned that earlier. According to the all knowing Andy "We've been over this. Team didn't get consistent results before Vickers left nor after." But I meant it as I would like to see how well he has progressed by going back to a better team.

RedBull could turn into something if they had more patience but I see where they are coming from, NASCAR is on a major decline with their target market. Hell, the only reason I even watch it anymore is becasue I'm addicted to my fantasy nascar league.

Tony has enough problems finding money. Which is sad in and of itself.

Yea, that's a sign of the times right there. When a proven winner and a guy with as much clout behind his name it's hard to fathom that he is finding it hard to make his teams work money wise. I can see guys like Nemacheck having a hard time but Toney Stewart?

But, then again the cost of running a NASCAR team is just insane, absolutely insane. And with NASCAR making it basically a one car series, the cost of needing wind tunnels, testing time, shaker machines, and engineers just to gain the slightest advantage and still stay within the retarded parameters that NASCAR has created is just stupid crazy. With the deep pockets that Red Bull has to throw in the towel then you know something is wrong. Maybe if NASCAR loosened the grip on what teams can and can't do, just a little, and bring back creativity, we may see better racing. What do I know other than, to me, NASCAR is just becoming a joke.

I don't see a line forming for the service of Vickers.

I think he's a decent driver and OK guy but the results just have never been there and I sometimes wonder if he was at HMS due to the fact that he and Ricky Hendrick were good friends.

I do , however, acknowledge his Nationwide title but we all know that NNS success doesn't always equate to cup success.

Good luck to him wherever he lands.

Vickers is only a season away from making the Chase. Red Bull has 1 win, 12 top 5s, and 44 top tens in its existence...that win, 9 of the top 5s, and 32 of those top 10s belong to Vickers. He has got 7 poles while with Red Bull.

Vickers got 3 top tens in 11 races last year. The rest of Red Bull got 4 top tens in 61 races. Vickers being hurt last year might be what has led to this(and why they were willing to take on a Hendrick driver on a lease)...that whole operation tanked without him there last year.

I am not saying he will or wont end up anywhere, just throwing some stats out there.

Another option I would imagine would be JTG/Daugherty Racing. I think Labonte is on a year to year thing.

Its not like there is a plethora of open rides out there.

Red Bull/MWR/JTG run virtually the exact same equipment.

Yeh I know ....that's what i was saying before, not a lot of open rides.

I don't understand why the Toyota teams aren't hounding Gibbs for information or try to buy chasis or engines from Gibbs. Is JGR that big of a dick to not help out the other toyota teams?

I would imagine that the non-Gibbs teams have some sort of exclusive contract with TRD.

Kind of a different situation, with both Hendrick and RCR having their own engine builders. The non-Gibbs Toyotas get their stuff from a 3rd party.

UPDATE: Sources say employees at Red Bull Racing have been told that the NASCAR Sprint Cup operation will close at the end of the year. A surprise visit by race director Thomas Ueberall had crew members scrambling for job openings at Michigan this weekend. Two scenarios mentioned for the existing equipment could be general manager Jay Frye bringing in investors and starting a new operation with Mark Martin and engines from Hendrick Motorsports, a plan that Frye had tried to expedite over the last two years with pushback from Austria. The hot rumor of late has been the return of Ray Evernham in an ownership role similar to Tony Stewart's at SHR, with Red Bull as the sponsor. On Monday Evernham told FOXSports.com he "had zero desire to be an owner again." Evernham said he had no knowledge on a Red Bull deal. Apparently, Red Bull was fairly far down the line in negotiations with Clint Bowyer for the #4 ride next season. It was one of the few companies that could afford Bowyer. Another dilemma with the Red Bull situation is what happens to Cole Whitt, who currently drives for the organization in the Camping World Truck Series. Certainly, if Frye acquires the assets, Whitt must be part of that plan.(Fox Sports)(6-20-2011)
UPDATE 2: Statement from Red Bull Racing: "Red Bull Racing Team is currently seeking outside investors as we evaluate next steps in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. We are not at liberty to comment on details while negotiations are under way. Red Bull fully supports NASCAR for the remainder of the 2011 season as we fight for victories and a position in the 2011 Chase for the Sprint Cup."(Red Bull Racing)(6-20-2011)
UPDATE: Jay Frye, vice president and general manager for Red Bull Team Racing, said Tuesday he is optimistic that he can line up investors to keep the organization intact for the 2012 season. "We have talked to some people who have great enthusiasm about what we're doing," Frye said on a conference call. "We believe we can put something together rather quickly in 30 to 45 days. But the process has just started. We had a lot of inquires yesterday. The goal is to keep the Red Bull team continuing on the path it's on." Frye said he couldn't get specific about ongoing negotiations. He said he learned a few weeks ago that Red Bull might pull out of the sport. Frye said it's possible Red Bull could stay involved in the team in some capacity in the future.(ESPN.com)(6-21-2011)

Who does redbull get their stuff from?

I wouldn't help a team that is capable of beating me week in and week out....

maybe they can merge with rpm. been kind of dull on the rpm front lately. <g>

Toyota wants to keep Red Bull: Red Bull Racing was one of Toyota's foundation teams when the Japanese manufacturer moved into Sprint Cup racing in the 2007 season. With this week's news that Red Bull is leaving behind its NASCAR connection, Toyota could lose one of its teams. But Toyota Racing Development chief Lee White said Wednesday that he is interested in working with team general manager Jay Frye as Frye seeks investors and sponsors to keep the team afloat. "I have a huge respect for Jay Frye," White said. "He's a great guy and has a lot of experience in the sport. He's well-connected. I'm very interested to see what he ends up with as far as investors and partners, and certainly we'll have time for him moving forward if he wants to continue the relationship, and we'll also have a lot of time for him even if that doesn't happen and it involves someone else."(SPEED)(6-23-2011)

Speed gets lien against Red Bull: Former Red Bull Racing driver Scott Speed has obtained an order of attachment against the team, placing a lien on its real property in North Carolina until Speed's lawsuit against the team is resolved. The order, covering the Red Bull shop in Mooresville, N.C., and the property on which it sits, was served Tuesday. The property was purchased for approximately $3.3 million. Such orders can be issued only in very limited circumstances in North Carolina. After Red Bull fired Speed, he sued the organization in December, claiming breach of contract and seeking damages of at least $6.5 million. In March, an N.C. judge denied Red Bull's request to dismiss the suit. A discovery motion in Speed's case is scheduled to be heard on July 11 in Iredell County Superior Court in Statesville, N.C. William Bray, Speed's attorney in the case, said his client sought the order because of Red Bull's recent announcement that it was looking to end its ownership role in NASCAR at the end of the 2011 season. Red Bull can contest the order, but as of Friday had not done so. Through a spokesperson, the team declined to comment.(Charlotte Observer)(7-2-2011)
