Well, I had planned on going to the Richmond Suntrust IndyCar 250, but current economic situations and ga$ price$, along with forecast weather conditions, have put a halt to this.

I'll be at "Battle of the Imports" at Maryland International Raceway instead.

Weather? Only a 30% chance of thundershowers. Or is it 100 degree weather keeping you away? Ol' VaDirt'll be there both nights taking pics for LuvRacin.

Has there been much promotion up your way for the race Andy? Down here in Hampton Roads, we're gettin' bupkis. Years past, the Hampton Roads Daily press, there was a story every day of the week leading up the Saturday. This year, not so much. Really surprising, given the merger, Danica's first win, etc.

(of course to be honest, I'm more looking forward to the USAC races myself)

Press passes didn't go through for me, but I would've gone for tickets.

Like I said, it's the weather AND ga$ price$. I might not be able to go to MIR, and the possibility of a vacation is getting smaller and smaller. Right now, the Annual Leave is just a number that stares at me because I can't afford to go anywhere, moving out of Waldorf and all.

Next few months are going to be hell squared, unless I can find a place in St. Charles.

No promotion here, minus a radio ad. None of the Richmond races get promotion up here, this is DC. Only local sports reporter who ever mentions any race is Lindsay Czarniak.

Open wheel racing isn't popular around here at all. Here, it's NASCAR, drag racing or bust. No IRL fans at all. Only reason anybody around here watches IRL is Danica. Even the Indianapolis 500, nobody watches that. Danica's win got virtually no press, minus the occassional slip.

As big of a fanbase as NASCAR has, it gets no press up here, minus Lindsay's sports report on NBC4. They had an ALMS series race back in 2002, first race in the DC area since Sports Car Club of America raced at Marlboro. There was an effort to get a NASCAR race here a while back, but the freakin' mouth breathers were opposed to it (and NASCAR never explored it's options in Southern Maryland).

I'm with you there. I had planned early in the year to go to the North/South 100 out in Kentucky. Scapped that recently and am staying close to home. One good thing about that, though, is that the USA 100 at VMS is going to feature both the MACS series and the Carolina Clash together.

Guess there's always the Chili Bowl, which is my annual trip, economy be damned.

Thanks VA, nice picture!:)

No, Andy, Danica usually qualifies well.

This should be a real good race tonight. Indy cars at Richmond are fun to watch...1 lap in about 15 seconds! Green flag is at 8:00pm ET

Brienne Pedigo = deer caught in headlights

Spin on lap one, before they get to turn one. Ryan Hunter Reay. Caution is out.

This is going to be a good race. Hot, slick short track. :owned:

Green flag, caution flag. Servia.

These open wheel cats don't know how to drive on a short track.

Cool, ESPN360 screws you out of side-by-side. And this is a premium service.

you can watch it streaming at indycar.com but video feed is not always the best.
Tried. Even in full screen mode, if you mouse over it, it goes black. It's pointless because in full-screen mode, it's just a black screen.

Good going Foyt.

That was worthy of a Bonehead of the Week award.

Geez! this looks like IRL of old...5 laps, caution for 10 laps  I swear when the racing gets going it's good

Yep, that's right Helio. Danica ALWAYS has to be the one to lift, rollover and play dead.

After a ridiculous first 3/4 of the race that seemed to have more yellow than green flag laps, Tony Kanaan gets his first victory of the season. Congrats to TK and team :beerbang:

Chalk one up for the Andretti Green Racing Team! Tony Kanaan wins at Richmond! Good job Tony.

Danica finished 6th. Not bad for qualifying at 14th. I'll take it. Next week its on at Watkins Glen.

I hope the weather evens out by next weekend. We go from hot/humid to rain/cooler or rain/humid to rain/cool.... it's been really weird around here. Thought about going to this race at the beginning of the year - getting the "3pak" that includes this and NASCAR, but it being the 4th weekend, we decided against it. It's always exciting when we have big racing in the area, even if it's 2 hrs south of me. I'm still sort of regretting not getting tickets for it, but then again, with how things have been going around here lately, it's probably just as well. I'll enjoy seeing "our track" on the tube, though. :)

Wow, I just rolled in from my first trip to a major race as member of the media. Lots of fun, but lots of work and I'm wore out. Took somewhere around 700 pictures today, although many are probably garbage. I'm working on them now, hopefully they'll be up and linked at luvracin.com soon.

I was in three different places tonight. At the exit of pit road for the start of the race (there was an ESPN cutaway car there, so they kicked us out after four laps), the photo stand in turn one, and the entrance to pit road. Being that close to the track for these cars is really an awesome experience!

I can't wait until my first major race. It will either be Richmond or Dover, though I am going to New Jersey in September. If I could've gotten media credentials to IRL, I would've gone, but no IndyCar race is worth buying tickets for.

I was at Maryland International RAceway, and our race there was just as much of a joke. Every single car that made a pass late leaked fluid.

Finally got all my sets of pictures up. Go to www.luvracin.com, click on Virginia and on Racng Photos. There's two sets for each night, one USAC and one IRL both Fri and Sat.

And Andy, I tell you, for the money, I'd rather go to an IRL race. $35 for IRL compared to $80 (at the cheapest), AND, you get to see more than one race (USAC)

Pfft, $80. I get my Richmond tickets for $25 (NW) and $60 (SPITCUP).
