Ricky Stenhouse, Jr.

Sad situation.

Looking at Stenhouse... I mean the man is just invisible. All jokes aside, I'm going to hold my opinion to the end of the year. I'm not expecting miracles, but when the end of the year comes. I will really have a stable opinion. Jack better hope Biff stays, because with Stenhouse and Bayne... IMO Chris Buescher looks better than Bayne sometimes. Honestly, Bayne will end up like Regan Smith if he is not careful... We all know how that went.

Ford is not the strongest out there, but when RPM and Front Row is front of Roush... Something is wrong. Roush has been with Ford for years, I expect more from them.
Yeah, Buescher is their ray of hope, it sure isn't Bain so far.

I completely disagree...hes not panning out so far but hes definitely better then guys like Danica, Annett, Algaier, Gilliland, Etc.
Considering the equipment disparities, Annett and Allgaier are outrunning him at the moment. Danica is also outrunning him, and it's not like SHR overall has great speed. The #4 is the only consistently fast car in that organization. I don't think you can really say the #14 and #41 are head and shoulders faster than the #99 and #16.

Consider the equipment that all those drivers are in, and the fact that Danica is above him in points. Stenhouse once looked like he was going to pick up right where Kenseth left off, and has been nothing but a disappointment since.

He said "the worst Driver" I brought up those names because he has always outperformed them in every series. That team is junk right now but he's still a better DRIVERhttp://.

With the #16 going nowhere fast, how can you be that harsh on a rookie in similar equipment? Roush has been underwhelming as a whole.

IN Nationwide he outdrove them in equal equip and out drove kyle busch, Brad k, harvick, carl at times and that RFR team was good but not great.

Can you really use someone's Nationwide performance to prove driver ability? Jeff Green dominated the Busch Series but didn't transition well to Cup. There are a lot of drivers from the 80s - early 90s that did not transition well to Cup.

You can when they outdrove the best drivers in cup series while in their primes. The "jeff greens" never had the same AMOUNT of competition.

Joey Logano outdrove a lot of those Cup guys for the longest time in Nationwide and is just now starting to run like a top tier guy. For some reason, some drivers can't make that transition.

Maybe Stenhouse needs time to transition, it took joey 5 years? No reason to call him the worst driver! getting that team in shape will help. If people simply would look at what he did at the end of last year. He has potential!

I never said that he was the worst, I just said that you can't use Nationwide stats to prove a driver's talent. He has potential, but he also won a championship against a VERY weak Nationwide only field. The Cup domination of the late 2000s really weakened the field.

He's massively regressed from last year.

No need to worry he's a lock to return next year. Then it'll be make or break for him

I was a big fan of his in Nationwide I really hope he turns it around

Stenhouse has disappointed no doubt about it. But keep in mind, every one called him a scrub in Nationwide after his first two years where he was a wrecking ball and and a back marker. He then went on to win back to back titles. I'm willing to give him next year to turn it around. Roush stinks top to bottom. If not for Edwards they'd have no shot.

Look at the drastic drop off with the 17 car the moment he stepped in. He took Kenseth's championship contending ride and completely shat the bed. Yes there are other legitimate factors at hand as to why that team has regressed, but the dude struggles to even finish in the top 20. There are several drivers in lesser equipment that outperform him on a regular basis. Of all the drivers on above average teams, who is worse? Danica? That's a toss up IMO.

Annett, Gilliland, and Allgaier wouldn't do any worse in the 17, and none of them are any good. Just my opinion of course.

To be fair the only thing of Kenseth's 17 team Ricky took was the number. Jimmy Fennig, the pit crew, and most of the engineers went to the 99. He also has had 2 different crew chiefs in his first 2 seasons not mention all but one of his engineers had cup expierence before this year.

Stenhouse should have won the spring Kansas race, but was caught on pit road when a caution came out. In the words of Kenseth who won the race "we got lucky today, because the 17 had the field covered."

I think he will turn it around as Roush turns themselves around and his crew gets a feel for the cup cars. As far as talent goes I think he has a ton of it. Just ask Tony Stewart who hired him to drive sprint cars at the age of 15. Who was the last non cup driver to win 8 Nationwide races in two years?

The talent is there.. the equipment is not.

Very good points. I was at that kansas 13' race and your exactly right.

what does he have like 2 top 5's in cup series

He couldn't carry Danica's jock strap..:D

That is correct.

If you look at this season he has 1 top five and 3 top tens. If you compare that to Biffle who has 2 top fives and 5 top tens it is apparent that the issue is within the equipment. As far as Edwards goes I am baffled on how he has won 2 races...

Welcome to the forum , JDemp07 , you make some great points . Do you think Roush can 'turn it around ' ?

Thanks Ted! I have been following the forum for a while and I finally joined!

I do believe RFR will turn it around, but it may not be this season. If you look at all of the other major teams (with the exception of HMS) they all going through this cycle, MWR is going through the same thing, RCR has been through it, and even Penske last year!

This year Ganassi has made a big turn around and for those who credit the HMS engines for that are completely ignorant. These engines all run about the same HP with maybe a 5hp difference. Doug Yates said that with these engines gains of .5 HP is considered significant. These days it is all about the setup of the car. You can have 200 extra hp, but if you can’t get back to the throttle coming out of the turn it doesn’t help.

I also have a theory that RFR and the other major teams could be considered to big to fail. The owners have way to much invested in them to not step up spend the extra money to protect themselves from losing all that they have invested.

It hurts me to say, but Carl leaving RFR I think would be the best thing for them. From what I have heard everyone has to operate on “Carl Time” , basically meaning he tries to control everything from the placement of pit crew members to the engineers that work with him. His contract is so ridiculous it really drains a lot of money from RFR’s budget those limiting how much they can spend on hiring more engineers and R&D. If you note RFR has digressed every year since he signed his extension in 2011.

Sorry for the rant!

Great points JDemp, very interesting. Glad to have you here on the forum B)

Would be nice to carry on a conversation about Stenhouse and Roush without all the kids snickering about his sex life . I really don't give a crap about what he does away from the track.

I know what you mean! Thats all everyone wants to talk about it relation to him. I am with you I don't care about any drivers relationships period. I like Nascar for the racing and if I cared about who is dating who in the celebrity world I would watch E! and read those magizines in the check out area at the grocery store!

To those people I have this quote:

"Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people"
Eleanor Roosevelt

I discuss all of that. Does that make me a greater than average small mind or a smaller than average great mind!?

Versatile mind?

I know I posted the quote but think about this.

Eleanor Roosevelt was discussing people's minds in that quote, so by his definition wouldn't that make him small minded?
