Will a road course specialist win at Sears Point?

They usually have problems, so I said No.

I said no! But what are you considering a RC specialist? Someone who is comign in to race just these 2 races, or someone like Both Gordon's, Andretti,Fittipaldi, etc? If its people like them then I would have said yes one of them will win.

So is CF considered a RC Speacilist? He is my pick! He has the most Road racing in the recent years!

i am with you, i was nothing thinking. Robby might win one this year. be nice if he did. allmost won on in 2001 but that damn black box cought on fire.

I consider a specialist one of the following...

P.J. Jones
Ron Fellows
Boris Said
Scott Pruett

Yes, I think Ron Fellows will win. He was fastest in testing( I think faster than the track record) and this is by far the best equipment he's ever had. Plus, since he's driving the #1 car,so he'll have a pit crew that works every week, unlike when he drove the #87 and a had a pit crew quickly thrown together.

Yes of course.

I have a quarter with a Boris Said Head on one and the Tail of Ron Fellows car on the other.

::Flip::

Tails it is, what every one see of Ron.

Ron is amaizing in any car, the getting used to is a matter of seconds. Park30 is right, track record in testing, I think we all know whats going to happen sunday. oh yeah.

Add Trans-Am driver Johnny Miller on that list! He will be drivign the Kodak Pontiac! I wounder how Morgan-McClure came up with him to drive the car?

I don't see A road course specialist winning. If they do that's fine, anyone except Robby Gordon!

The term we are speaking of are Road Coarse "Ringers" I do like Ron Fellows just because he has the complete package as far as equipment and crew goes. If not I'd like to see either Robby Gordon or Mark Martin take it. I thinking Jarrett will end up on his lid this weekend. I mean that is the only thing that has not happened so far this year.

No...Fellows has the best chance of pulling it off, but I just don't see it happening. Guys like Jeff Gordon, Rusty Wallace, Mark Martin and Tony Stewart have been racing these cars for years and have had success on these road courses for years also.

Jarrett somehow seems to find the sand traps at the road races.

I do not see a specialist winning, but they will challenge.

The need for road course ringers just shows how much there is a lack of deep talent in the Nextel Series. Why can't these guys turn right and brake? With all the recent driver changes and how little anybody is mentioned coming up from the Busch series, is NASCAR getting watered down in the talent pool?

I voted No in the poll,as the road course specialists aren't really racing for points, just the win & IMO They're trying so hard for the win that They'll make a mistake & end up in the kitty litter or such & finish 30th or worse in most cases,JMO!
My take on the upcoming race is Jeff Gordon starting on pole, leading most laps(like He did last year),hopefully the dang rear-end gear will not break, and Jeff Gordon goes on to win while pulling away,of course,I'm somewhat bias, but then again Jeff Gordon isn't called the road course king for nothing ;) :D

Does anyone think Hideo Fukuyama will do good this weekend? His background is road racing in Japan and I am really curious to see him race this weekend. I think he could get a top 10, but at the same time he's been so far off at the other races, I'm not sure he could even do good in a Winston Cup roadrace.

I was thinking the same thing, I hope Hideo can have a good run in the 66 this weekend. Paul Menard is in the 33 for Andy Petree, I wonder if he is going to make the race. How many full time teams are going to be sent home by ringers this weekend?

Thats the same as me I think he will give everyone a run for their money here

Then next two cup races will be a battle between RCR and DEI.

Daytona for obvious reason and Infineon because of Robby Gordon and Ron Fellows. I think this will be Ron fellows 2nd best shot a a road course win since he runs much better at the glen. Michael isn't that bad of road racer either, besides Fellows was supposed to be "teaching" th rest of the DEI drivers to be a good road racers. I mention RCR not only for robby, but steve did get his first career win on road course at the glen.

I don't see a so called road course specialist winning. If I was a betting man. I would put my money on Robby Gordon or Jeff Gordon. :D

If the talent pool is getting so watered down can you tell me the last time a "ringer" won?

Ok, so most if not all of the Cup guys come from the Busch series right? And Busch series doesn't run road courses, right? So, how are these guys supposed to be good road course drivers? I see where guys like both Gordons and Tony Stewart, etc with their open wheel experience would have a decided advantage here.

I really do think the whole idea of hiring "road course specialists" is pretty stupid. When was the last time one of them won a Cup road race?

Recall when Jeff Gordon, early in His Winston Cup career, was found lacking in talent at the short tracks & the road courses, but Jeff went to the Buck Baker driving school & got the training He needed to improve at the road courses, needless to say it worked,He also spent more attention to the short track events & those are now some of His best performances!
Other drivers could also do all of the above, instead of just hiring ringers for the road courses, but I guess They feel it's not worth it for only 2 events each season,if there were 3 or even 4 road course dates a season I bet that more drivers would get the proper training to help Them at those tracks,JMO!
