Robby Gordon hoping for more Dodge support with Penske’s impending move to Ford

Robby Gordon obviously could use more sponsorship in any form, so if the Penske Racing move from Dodge to Ford in 2013 helps him, he’s all for the additional support.
As a driver and team owner, Gordon has run Dodges the last four years in NASCAR's Sprint Cup Series. He gets his motors from Joey Arrington’s Race Engines Plus.
Gordon believes he has an advantage over other teams possibly looking for Dodge support because his team builds all his own cars. He doesn’t have an alliance where he gets cars and engines from another organization.
“We are a company that can actually manufacture cars,” Gordon said last week at Phoenix International Raceway. “We might be sitting in the right place. … As far as shop organization goes, we have got all the tools to build all our race cars – we have everything in-house to do that while a lot of these Cup teams don’t have the tools to do it.”
Gordon, who has successfully qualified for the first two races of the season after finishing outside the top 35 in 2011, plans to field a car in every race this year, but whether he will be the driver and how much of each race is run, due to finances, is still to be determined.
His only funding comes from some Menard’s sponsorship, from Dodge and whatever profits he can bring from his Speed Energy drink.
Dodge helped with sponsorship last year with the movie “Fast Five” for select races. Gordon said he gets some engine parts and bodywork parts as part of his Dodge deal.
“If I had a [full] factory program in place, I’d show up and drive all the races,” Gordon said. “Right now, I’m trying to figure out how to fund this thing. With Speed Energy, that’s been about the only way I can build a business that actually can turn some profit [for sponsorship].
“I have to focus on that, too.”
When asked if he needed to start looking at other manufacturers, Gordon said he believes Dodge’s business is coming around and he likes the vehicles.
“I love Dodge,” Gordon said. “I’ve had a good relationship with these guys. They’ve always had the Penske organization. I don’t know if they’re going to choose us. Time will tell if they choose us or if they have to choose a big name.”
From here.

No way Dodge pins everything on a guy who doesn't even run all the races. If RPM or EGR don't jump in, Dodge is finished.

HA! RPM OR GNASSI. A funny man you are Fender. Alas, no wool will be pulled over my eyes!

DODGE IS DONE!

Penske is the ONLY place to get a Dodge Race Engine. Without Penske in the picture, there is no Dodge unless another engine builder is interested in retooling their operation.

RPM doesn't build anything. They just assemble parts from other builders. Ganassi is in bed with Childress and DEI (such as it is) for engines and I don't see RCR switching to MOPAR.

I agree with MJ, Dodge is dead - for now at least... The damn Europeans (Fiat, Red Bull) just don't get NA$$CAR. I am actually quite surprised that Anheuser-Busch is still around...

I just don't see Dodge making that clown it's flagship owner. They'd probably rather he not even drive one of their vehicles.

Arrington Manufacturing also builds Dodge engines.

Who buys them???

I was going by what I saw reported on the ol T&V. They said that Penske builds their own Dodge engines - and engines for Robby Gordon. They are going to continue to build their own engines when they switch to DORF as well. I doubt that R-Y will give Penske all of their secrets, though...

I may get beat up for this post but here it goes....I think if Dodge wants to hang in NASCAR that Robby Gordon may be a good outlet. We know they can build some winning race vehicles( In other sports ) and maybe with some strong factory backing and at least a two car operation Robby Gordon can keep them in. They have built some pretty competitive cars in the past, and one thing good about Robby is he wants to race and just can't find funding. He's built his own company to stay in and has tried a bunch of new ways to keep it going even Speed Energy. He wants to be in this sport and wants to be competitive. I think it aggregates the heck out of him to start and park and not being able to run all the laps and compete. Granted he's a bonehead sometimes, I think it could be beneficial for both Dodge and him. I don't think any team like RPM and Ganassi will be signing up to be the only Dodge team. If Penske couldn't make it work what makes them think they'll fair much different. If Dodge can take a team like Robby Gordon's and turn it around it may build something for them in the future with others. I don't see a team that's established taking that chance right now. Also RPM and Ganassi are under the gun to perform right now and they don't need the distraction of something big like a manufacturers change hanging over them. Plus with Ganassi, who wants to see the Earnhardt name on a Dodge

I'd be very curious to see what Gordon could do with full Dodge support and a couple of decent drivers. Good luck to him

seriously if your are going to reply in a thread at least read the OP.

Robby uses NASCAR to fund his other hobbies. I look forward to him being completely out of NASCAR.

+1

Since the 2008 season he has raced in 125 races with only 5 top 10s. His average finish was around 30th to 36th during those races and yet he's had an earnings of 13,195,151 million dollars!

You have to wonder if Dodge knew this was coming or not. They have a 2013 car ready and were planning on debuting it this week in Las Vegas.

I wonder also. I would think they had an idea of it. Penske said it was a couple month process and it was the last year of the contract. I don't understand the move completely, both drivers were in the chase and Penske's 5 wins (3 for Brad and 2 for Kurt if memory serves me right) matched Hendrick so they were competitive. I just don't believe the switch will be the missing link for a championship. The last time Penske had Ford it didn't amount to one.

Read the second sentence in the article posted by DP, several of the truck series and ARCA teams also get engines from Arrington.

This may work out to be good for Robby. I certainly would like to see him get some factory backing. I like the guy but apparently some others here have a different opinion of him.

The latest entry into America’s most popular motorsports series could very well be the first ever from Germany. According to Matthias Muller, the newly appointed CEO of Porsche, Volkswagen Group — his employer’s parent company — is considering entering NASCAR. Should it follow through, Volkswagen would be just the second foreign automaker to participate in NASCAR. Toyota was first, entering the competition in 2007.
The German automaker will reportedly begin discussions with NASCAR officials once the current season ends in late November. One of the owners that Volkswagen is considering team up with is Roger Penske, who is currently associated with Dodge and has a history of success in the stock car series. Currently, Penske driver Kurt Busch is in 4th place and firmly in the Chase for the Cup, while other regular cup drivers Brad Keselowski and Sam Hornish Jr. are 26th and 27th, respectively.
The factors that would not only enable a NASCAR entry, but also make marketing sense, are Volkswagen’s new Chattanooga, Tennessee, assembly plant and the enigmatic “New Midsize Sedan” that will be built there. Whatever it ends up being called, it’s the most likely base for a NASCAR entry and also the most likely source of growth for Volkswagen, which has set ambitious sales targets in the coming years.
What do you think? Does it make sense for Volkswagen to enter NASCAR with the New Midsize Sedan, or will the German automaker be wasting its time and money?

How long till Herbie comes to Nascar? Let's just hope he doesn't bring Lindsay Lohan with him.

I would say Subaru. Legacy in Cup and Imprezza in Nationwide. Having a V8 model is not a prerequisite.

they were to start talks in Nov 2010 and planning to use Penske.Since Penske is going to use Fords next year I would bet VW decided on something different.

I thought that we were talking about CUP...
Guess not. My bad. So sorry.
Yes we are talking Cup, seeing how you apparently did'nt take my advice and READ the article this thread is based on, here's the second sentence in that article:
"As a driver and team owner, Gordon has run Dodges the last four years in NASCAR's Sprint Cup Series. He gets his motors from Joey Arrington’s Race Engines Plus."

Just trying to be helpful.

Did'nt Herbie already win a Cup race a few years back? I'm pretty sure I took the grandkids to that one, they had to have popcorn and skittles.
