Robby Gordon hoping for more Dodge support

Unless Gordon runs every race and has top 10 fnishes, maybe a few top 5 and might as well throw in a win too Dodge won't stay with him very long.

Now I can see Nemachek and Tommy Baldwin switching over if they get factory support.

RG could be Dodge's new leader

They need a high profile driver for it to be a good move. I don't see this happening.

I did...it was obvious you were not reading the OP and just commenting off the title of the thread...

I read the posted article. I guess I just missed that. I am an idiot...

I was partly going off of what was said on TV. I can't remember which program but they said that Penske was building all of the Dodge engines. I took that to mean ALL of the Dodge engines. But I guess it was just all of the Dodge engines for Penske.

I'm pretty sure ROBBY (with a y not ie) has just ran Dodges for the past two years. Seems like in.2010 he was in a Toyota. I hope he can find funding. He's pretty cool. Plus he's my favorite driver! All you haters can just kiss it!

I'm so happy that he didn't make the race. He didn't care enough to even drive the car Sunday so I was thrilled he didn't make it!

Your favorite driver that plans on not running? WOW, that's who everybody should root for, a guy who just races in NASCAR to make money to fund his off road career. How noble to the fans is that?

ME TOO

The reason that he's still running Cup doesn't bother me in the least. I'd still like to see him do well in whatever racing he does. If that's what it takes to fund the off road stuff, oh well. I can root for him there. I'd still like to see him get a Cup victory on a road course again one of these days but time's running out for him. Nothing wrong with rooting for the underdog IMO.

For those interested... RGM manufacturers:
05-06 Chevy
07 Ford
08-09 Shootout Dodge
09 Daytona 500-2010 Toyota
2011-Present Dodge again

I hope Robby is keeping in touch with the other manufacturers in case Dodge announces that they are pulling out.I think Dodge will be gone by next year.

I think Dodge will exhaust all efforts to stay in NASCAR, I'd be quite surprised if they just pull out. Penske's performance has not been bad at all. They've made chases and won races. I think there's several (not big) teams that would be just fine having cars in the chase and winning some races. Front Row Motorsports, Furniture Row Racing, Robby Gordon are just a couple. I don't see a big team switching, but I see a small one that wants success doing it. Some sites say Ganassi, but they've been behind for years now and switched from Dodge a couple years back with the merger.

Would Dodge really be happy with a stable of start and parks or would it be better just to put things on hold for a couple of years till one of the top teams comes calling?

Sure, that plan worked out great 30 years ago.

It seems Fiat doesn't care about nascar. Dodge never got aggressive pursuing other teams to join Penske. Maybe they will be happy just having a presence with a bunch of small teams. I think their best choice is to do what Toyota did and create an engine building and tech center for teams to use.

No they won't be happy with start and parks, but with some factory support and or sponsorships some of these teams won't have to start and park. When Dodge came back into the sport they did it with a lot of factory support and sponsorship. Furniture Row is far from a start and park team and there performance has been increasing over the last couple years. When Front Row cars have the funding they go the race distance. I don't think a couple years off will help Dodge, top teams are not going to change. I say top teams meaning RCR, Hendrick, Roush, and Gibbs, and SHR. Also what happens if another manufacturer joins in and Dodge doesn't have a team? The new guy is gonna be sending a lot of money just like Toyota did coming in. I think if Dodge doesn't have a team going into 2013, I just don't see them coming back anytime soon. I think they hook up with a second tier team to stay in the sport and go from there. I think the key is for them to have a team in 2013.

I agree. Popping in and out of the sport is no way to build anything. Now's the time to show everyone they are here to stay.

But they lost their second tier team and would be looking for more third tier teams. I don't see that the risk/reward is in their favour. If they are going to spend just as much as Chevy and Ford , they need to get an equal amount of wins, don't they ?

What plan on Earth would get Dodge as many wins next year as Chevy or Ford? o_O:confused:

What did Robby expect to gain from qualifing his car then putting in Reed to race it.He would have started from the rear because of the driver change.Should have let Reed qual and race it.Couldn't have done any more damage than what Robby did.:D

Is Sorenson Italian? It could be part of Robbies master plan to get the boys at Fiat to support him. ;)

Exactly Fender ....so why put out the big bucks and highlight your fourth place status?

Errr...to show the teams you are commited to building a future in nascar. It isn't my plan, it's exactly what Toyota did to break into the sport.

Toyota had a future , Dodge has a past . Without attracting at least a Joe Gibbs quality owner like Toyota did , There is no possibility that Dodge can build anything on the Robby Gordon model.

Are we going in circles now? Gibbs isn't the first team Toyota attracted. A small, under performing MWR team was the best they could get in 2006, and ONLY by building their engines and providing wind tunnel, and eventually 7 post to their teams. When Toyota stuck around, Gibb's eventually came in. It's called BUILDING a future, because even Toyota couldn't BUY a future by throwing money at a top team.

Okay , good luck to Dodge , I don't think they will be at Homestead , hope I'm wrong.

Toyota started building that future in the Craftsman Truck Series, that's where they got their feet wet, and they progressed from there. Dodge has come and gone in this sport, it isn't like they are a new guy in town. I don't think there will be any teams willing to take a chance on them, even if they offer up some support. Dodges' track record, pun intended, isn't exactly stellar the past go around. Some wins when Evernham was heading it up, which I really thought would launch them big time as manufacturer that would stay in the sport with a major presence. I think Daimler really messed that up when they had controlling interest of Chrysler, they pulled out a lot funding if I remember correctly, and that was the kiss of death. With Fiat now, I think they want sell cars first before they throw any money at Nascar.

When Dodge came back to cup in 2001 you couldn't find a light pole within miles of the speedway that didn't have a red Dodge banner on it.

I like rooting for the underdog too. That is when said competitor is a real competitor at said level. Robby doesn't have the character of a competitor. So he's not a real under dog to me.

Did you see his crappy excuse of a qualifying lap? Robby doesn't care anymore. All he cares about is the top 35 and taking his money to the baja circuit.

If they would sponsor more cars instead of light poles maybe they would do better.:D
