This has always been the event that has kicked off the racing season for me knowing that NASCAR starts right behind the Rolex 24. I usually try to catch as much of this race as I can. It's amazing how close some of the races turn out after that much time on the track. Does anyone out there know where there's a list of the Cup regulars running in this race? And..... Do you think we should start a thread about how the Cup drivers are ruining this racing series?

I was wondering the same thing about the Cup guys. I too love this race, always gets me pumped up for the season! Found this: http://www.grand-am.com/schedule/entrylist.cfm?series=r&eid=2350

Thanks for the link.....

I see Bill Lester on there running the #86 for Mitchum Motorsports. I had wondered what happened to him.

I'd like to see Tony Stewart run this again. He's come so close a couple times.

Is there any connection to Cup drivers that do well in the 24 and winning one of the road courses? Or has this ever happened?

wow 24 hours and it comes down to basically a 2 minutes shootout:beerbang:

correction 1 lap shootout:beerbang:

Wow Ganassi has won the Daytona 500, Brickyard 400, Indy 500, and Rolex 24 all in the last year:eek:

Anyone else think they need to shorten this race? I mean the beginning was good and the end was good but that 23 1/2 hours in between was pretty dull. Maybe they need to give a bonus point for leading at the halfway point?

Excellent race as usual. Congrats to all of the podium finishers and 'hats off' to the rest. :beerbang:

Hell no, my problem is Speed didn't televise the race over night if they had I would have watched it like 4 in the morning. I've been jonesin for some racing action. Speed did televise the Toyota All Star race till 1am that was cool but I wish they would of picked back up The Rolex. Bonus points for half way would be good, but how about bonus points at every quarter?

Please, please, the points thing was a joke. That race is fine just the way it is.

I've watched that race for quite a while now. I think that I can remember them covering the race from green to checkered at least one time in the past. It may have been when the Earnhardt's ran in 2001? While you and I would probably watch, many wouldn't. It's probably not cost effective.

Yeah you'd have to have at least twice the people working it. I mean you don't think they could use the same camera guys for 24 hours they have to change announcers pit reporters the whole lot.

I said something like that to my wife on Saturday too. It seems I rememebr last year, they broadcast until 11 or 12, then picked back up at 4 in the moring, or somehere around thre. Seem I remember them touting 18 hours when they were building up to it.

The 24 hours of lemans televises all 24 hours usually, or close to it (speed doesnt do all 24 i dont think, but eurovision or w/e does). What they do, is for the middle 8 hours while the production/ect crew sleeps, is they run on a rotating sequence of the robotic cameras, and actually do a half decent job of it.

OK, I know you're joking about the points. :) That being said, the race had some exciting parts....even in the middle of the night. The only really boring part would be the 2 hr caution for fog. It shouldn't be shortened since a big part of it is having the endurance and equipment to make it through the 24 hrs.

Juan Pablo hit everything but the pacecar and they're lucky they made it to the end. They ran out of noses to replace on the car & ended up with a plain white one. LOL

Did any of you know that Andy Lally actually qualified first with a faster speed than ever had been recorded? (I assume they meant for the sports cars.) He was a victim of the dreaded tech inspection where they found a part less than one millimeter off and disallowed his time. He started dead last an ended up coming in first. You can't keep a good team down! I hope TRG gives him some more opportunities in their Cup car this year.
