Ross Chastain is a Future Star

3 wins total between trucks and xfinity does not warrant an elite cup ride.

For what it’s worth, he’s run 51 cup races and has a single top 10 in the Daytona 500 to show for it.

He’s certainly a heck of a talent but rushing him into the premier series is a hard pass.

You know better than that. He's in Jay Robinson **** boxes.

However yes, he should have a season of Xfinity with a capable team, JDM isn't that team.

I just hope he keeps getting plenty of rides and continues to race because I like to root for him. right now he has a pretty darn good truck to drive, and decent almost impossible to win in Xfinity and cup rides doing a good job for the owners The up to cup B.S. isn't always the best place to be for every driver that comes down the pike. Even a good Xfinity car is hard to come by these days much less cup.

Pretty interesting that Ross disagreed with the talking heads on every turn

Listened earlier. It was pretty solid. I love how Ross told it as it is regarding the ease of driving a 2019 cup car vs Xfinity car.

I see good points from both sides of the argument. I wish they would have asked Ross what he thought about Preece getting the 47 car in Cup, and if he thinks Preece would have got that opportunity without his impressive JGR stint in Xfinity

Ross would've never gotten an opportunity to drive the 42 full time (even though it didn't work out) if it weren't for his 3 impressive starts in it last year. Racing now is all about "win now or we're moving on."

I like Ross a ton, great guy, great character that sustains him through tough situations. He is the genuine deal, with his family roots in farming just outside Fort Myers FL (where I live). I think his future will be decided by the availability of a good ride/team. So much hinges on breaking through against the rising kids from Xfinity already tagged for greatness.

Frankly some of them are boring. Ross is a great spokesperson for a sponsor. Hope he gets the chance.

Cup is a big time equalizer...I think Ross is good and deserves to be there..but Byron,Jones,Larson etc. All looked like they were unbeatable and more impressive in lower series than Ross and FOR now they're all just mid pack guys....if you want to argue Larson...check his last two seasons stats.

I'm not sure how long Byron and Jones will be "average." Honestly, every race I've watched, both have looked pretty good, Jones has had some bad luck.

it takes a long time to consistently win in Cup and it's been that way since the COT era. Jones' stats are better, at this point in his career, than Joey Logano's stats were at the same point of his career.

Idk about star, but deserving of at least a decent cup ride? Absolutely. Idk if it’ll ever happen though, him and Moffitt may just have to become career truckers

Just my opinion, but I'd bet he'd be doing more with the 24, 88 or even 48 than the current seat holders are. I think Byron's biggest problem is feedback for what he needs in the car once the green flag drops.

That's what Chastain is selling. His opinion is running all the races when you are new in a lesser car is more valuable than buying a short term ride with a mega team. Hendrick on the other hand isn't one to jerk a driver out after a few starts like some are doing. In Byron's case it is paying off. Gibbs/TRD whatever saw an opportunity to get an experienced driver easily and they took it and that worked for them. Toyota's driver development program is coming to roost. Lots of good talent, but now where do they go. Have they found and paid for the costs involved to bring up drivers only to have no spots available, and other teams reap the rewards?

Take a look at his stats in top equipment and throw away the ones when he was driving junk. He is top shelf talent.

He has the potential to be a star and honestly Chastain is already on the forefront of making a breakthrough soon to be better team. I still want to see CGR come back to Xfinity and Ross getting that ride in the 42 car again. I know Chip has to be disappointed about the whole DC Solar fiasco, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed to see the 42 back in Xfinity again. If, Ross does outstanding there, move him up.

The difference is that Chastain is a more seasoned, more mature driver than most prospects. These kind of guys pay off IMO and would like to see more get an opprotunity. He started when JD Motorsports was in there second full season and replaced Jeffery Earnhardt. That was 2015 and stuck around there helping that team build.

Hell, I knew absolutely nothing about Niece Motorsports until Ross started running up front with them. I just knew that 45 truck from all the times Fontaine wrecked it last year. Seems like Ross really helped that team come out of nowhere

They have a GMS technical alliance, these trucks are fast they get and Niece of course adds their own twists.

Yes sir, good stuff but not quite KBM level and he still makes it work.

Go Ross Chastain. I like that guy on and off of the track.

Me To!
My wife and I were all up on the TV in the last 30 laps at St. Lewy. We are definitely fans of Ross, hey, another good Florida boy get'en r done! :punkrocke.

We have been fans of his since we watched him race short tracks in Florida.

I would love to eventually see a third Ganassi team in Cup with Chastain behind the wheel. I doubt Chip expands to a third team anytime soon (if ever) but it would be great if it happened
Maybe he can hang around long enough to take over the 1 when Kurt decides to hang it up. Kurt’s probably still got a few good years left, but he is at the age where the R word starts entering the conversation.

I like that he is passive/aggressive. He can "nurse" a car with inferior equipment and get a decent finish, but also can drive aggressively in the front with good equipment. Seems to be able to recover out of shape (like Ky. Busch.) His Darlington Xfinity run last year, up until his tangle with Harvick, showed lots of talent on a difficult track.
