TALLADEGA, Ala. -- Rusty Wallace gave a new meaning to the term "high speed communication" on Wednesday afternoon when he piloted his Miller Lite Dodge at speeds up to 228 mph at Talladega Superspeedway.

HMMM sounds like funn.. I would love to see that. Three wide 10 deep.. maybe up to 140?
 
If Rusty thinks they could adjust the car to go unrestrcited without the draft and go 235, if can't begin to imagine how fast they would go in the draft.

To be honest, I'm mildly surpised that he only averaged 221. I would have bet on faster, but then again, this probably wasn't the fastest car they could have put out there giving the fact the car is tuned to go fast with a restictor plate in the draft and not tuned to run without a plate by itself.
 
I don't know how many horses Penske is putting out, but put a DEI car out there with that slick aero package and lets just see how fast it goes.

I'm thinking that there only a few active drivers familiar with unrestricted racing. Also, the scheduling could have prevented some.

I don't think you would have ever gotten them off the track!
 
Geeeeezzzzzzzzz, at those speeds, them open wheelers
woulda had trouble keepin up!!!! LOL
 
Though I'd love to see them race at Talladega and Daytona unrestricted.........I think those speeds just demonstrate why we won't. Those SAFER barriers don't stand a chance in hades against 43 3400 lb cars going 220 plus mile per hour!! :(
 
What you don't want to see is the current engine/body configuration for super spedways going unrestricted.
 
228 Mph :blink: I can imagine what that would look like with 42 other cars out there with Him.
 
This was a high speed communications test for RACING RADIOS or RACING ELECTRONICS. I don't remember the company for sure, but they are a longtime sponsor of RUSTY'S.
 
I would guess racing electronics.........radios work on aircraft going a little faster than 228 mph!! :) It might be something to do with the placement and distribution of the timing transponders that NASCAR is putting in place at all the sanctioned tracks. Thanks for that info racer35. :)
 
Speaking of radio's ^_^ Does anyone have the Stubby Antana (Spelling) that goes to a Scanner? If so at the races do you recieve alot of bleed over, more so then you would if you used the Long Antana (Spelling) In Richmond I had no problems at all with bleed over. But when I went to Lowes I got alot of bleed over through out the night.
 
I really don't think any bleed over is caused by your antenna. More likely to be something in the tunning of the radio to whatever frequency you were tuned to or too strong signal on an adjacent channel. Not enough antenna would cause breakups and noisy reception. But bleeding over of frequencies could be low signal on one channel and high signal on an adjacent channel.......... or it could be exceptionally high signal on one channel and interfering with more than one adjacent channel. Antenna length or placement would have little, if anything, to do with it. Maybe you were close to whatever channel was interfering with the channel you were trying to listen to and the desired channel, unfortunately was not close. Just a suggestion. Antennas, no matter what the length are tuned to the frequency spectrum you are tuned to...........they receive all those frequencies pretty much evenly.
 
Thanks DE :cheers: I must have been sittin to close to someone cause I was monitoring Jr and McMurrays. McMurrays was clear but the bleed over was alot on Jrs

Would like to see DEJr and Newman going head to head, unrestricted, around Talledega.

Say to hell with Nascar and put it on pay-per-view.
 
Something tells me this was not a "radio" test..., the radios for the IRL @ Indy work just fine at 230+mph and I think their was a reason why DEI was not there...I smell a big rules package change coming to the plate races, DEI advantage gone.

not so fast redrock, they haven't changed anything yet. ;)
 
Not sure where I saw this (did I see it here too?), but I just think they're testing the transponders.
 
I'm with you Windsor.........multiple transponders placed around the track for scoring and setting the field at the time of the caution. Radios work just fine in aircraft going multiple mach speeds! :D

Don't look for plates going away anything time soon..........actually I think the tracks will be dropped first. :(
