Sam's Town 300 - Nationwide

I have to admit I am actually liking the new points system. Take a look at the Nationwide points standings. Here comes Trevor.

The only thing is with the way the Nationwide series is run right now, is it going to award a true Champion or one that is second tier behind all the Cup guys that participate?;)

To me, it'll be a true Nationwide champion.

Awesome race today. I had Danica on the scanner for several laps, she drove her butt off. She has made some very noticeable progress. Too bad Carl had to come in for fuel because he was clearly the fastest car on the track.
Wow, Mark Martin in Victory Lane in a (Busch) Nationwide car again :D. We had a great time today tailgating, Vegas has some awesome fans. Can't wait to do it all again tomorrow.

I thought that I had my DVR set up to record this race but the ESPN to ABC switch bit me in the a$$. Dang..... a Mark Martin victory, the highest finish for a woman in Nationwide history, a Kyle Busch brainfart, a Keselowski tire blowout on the last lap! Oh well, congrats to Mark Martin & Danica.

Next up Bristol and I'll be there for that one. It'll be the first trip there for Danica. That will be a tough place to back up that 4th place finish. Bristol was one of the only two races last year that a non Cup contender won a race. Maybe we'll actually get to see a Nationwide race winner get some points this year? Ya, probably not.

How is it a true Champion if the Cups guys are always winning?

The way things are structured now it takes the big money out of the championship. The little guy is competing against the other little guys. The other thing this will do is secure more sponsor dollars for the true Nationwide teams by giving them more exposure.

Just as an example take a look where Danica is in points compared to where she would have been under the old points system.

The Nationwide guys still won't get the camera time (during the race) that the Cup guys will. The big sponsor dollars will go to the big name (Cup) drivers.

A better way is to look at it is where she would be if you count all the Cup guys in the points? She wouldn't fair to well, she is only running a partial schedule anyway. I don't think letting the Cup guys run in a unlimited manner is a good thing, they are the ones getting the exposure mostly. They are the ones you see on camera the most. They are the ones that win the most. Nascar can't have it both ways, either eliminate the Cup guys or restrict them to a few races, that way a true Nationwide driver is crowned Champion. The way it is structured now a Nationwide only driver could win the Championship without even winning a race. I thought the emphasis was supposed to be on winning? Isn't that what Nascar was touting before the start of the season?

Opinions are what puts life in this board.

We will have to wait a while to see how things shake out. But again, right now I like the points system.

That's true. But maybe after this year it'll make Nascar look at limiting how many races a cup guy can run.
I'd like to see them put a limit on how many a cup guy can run and a limit on how many cup drivers can run each race.

Limiting the amount of starts for Cup drivers was what I had thought they were gonna do in the first place. What if Cup drivers do a clean sweep of the season & the Nationwide champion doesn't even win a single race, then what. Last time I heard of that happening in any racing series was I think back in 94 when Scott Pruett won the Trans-Am title even though he didn't win a race all season.
